@GottaLaff When I read that, I assumed he was on the plane that went down. I understand there several famous figure skaters on that plane.

@GottaLaff I’ve always enjoyed his commentaries. RIP, kind sir.

@GottaLaff
Dick Button. One of the “real characters” of the sport. Button was a TV commentator for skating competitions and he was an Olympic Gold Medal skater too. Smooth ice to you, Dick!

@GottaLaff

The future and an icon all within 24 hours.
I don't know how they get over this.

@GottaLaff

#RIP Dick, the Rockefeller Ice Rink should have a memorial program!

@GottaLaff Dick Button I enjoyed his commentary over the years 😢

@GottaLaff Legend. Outspoken. A fixture on Wide World of Sports for decades.

He also brought us the Battle of the Network Stars. Us 70's kids watched every time.

RIP

@GottaLaff He taught America about figure skating. Did it with class.

@IveyJanette Yes, I loved listening and learning

@GottaLaff He was always entertaining. Plus you learned something from him and Jim McKay.

@GottaLaff @IveyJanette

I loved watching Wide Wide World of Sports when I was a kid! Olympics, every kind of auto racing, etc.

@IveyJanette @GottaLaff @chessert WWoS was terrific. So was ABC's coverage of the Olympics. Fewer hours of coverage, but you saw the sports. I'll never forget watching Bob Beamon's world record jump in the long jump. Wow. Saw it live I believe. If I didn't, wouldn't have known it because they just showed us the sports.

@chessert @GottaLaff Plus arm wrestling,skiing, bodybuilding, demolition derby and boxing. Drag racing from Pomona. Every Saturday at 5 pm on Channel 7.

@IveyJanette @GottaLaff

I grew up in Chicago (Evanston), so it was 3PM on Saturdays: perfect for kids.

@GottaLaff My first thought was pretty much this - I hope he passed peacefully before he could hear the news from the crash
