EDIT:
“Colombian govt agreed to allow US military flights carrying deported migrants to land..”
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c20p36e62gyo
Via @Pachacutec:
BBC article is rewriting US press release. It omits that #Colombia obtained agreemt from US to ensure deported citizens transported safely, not in chains, w respect for the bodies, dignity, human rts. This was Pres Petro's core demand.
Western media is at this pt consistently framing the agreemt as a unilateral concession by #Colombia and that is false.
2/ Please note the above edit and corrections, with thanks to @Pachacutec.
@GottaLaff I'm terribly disappointed that Colombia gave in. It will only empower him to bully more countries. I also thought they had a strong hand. They have popular imports that would've increased in price, and their retaliatory tariffs would've hit farmers in red states.
@jcrossonhill Yes, after seeing their initial response, I felt confident that they had a strong hand. No idea what happened.
@GottaLaff @jcrossonhill
Colombia got what they asked for... That's what changed!
Colombia won
tRUmp & US MSM obfuscates
@thunder_struck Yes, as you can see, my post was edited since I said that. @jcrossonhill
@GottaLaff @jcrossonhill Yes... Was responding to all for clarity. Real news fails to break through the fog of dis/misinformation
@ShrikeTron I'll boost, thanks. @jcrossonhill
@jcrossonhill See my update
@GottaLaff @Pachacutec it's nice to know there are ppl out in the world who give a shit about others... I've reached the limit of endurance for today so before I completely fall apart I'll help my wife with dinner, we are always an effective team! Be strong, we are in this together.
@pg1958 I'm with you! And thanks again @Pachacutec !
Thanks. Stay strong! Stay connected too.
Never trust the BBC! No!
@GottaLaff @Pachacutec I gave up on the BBC after Brexit, it's as political as you would expect a State Broadcaster to be, it's claims of Neutrality are bollocks.
No 10 wants to suck up to Trump, so the BBC lies for him.
@Lazarou Yes, I’m just learning that! No more BBC confidence from me. @Pachacutec
@GottaLaff @Pachacutec that British 'soft power' draining away before our eyes.....that's what Brexit does to a country.
@Lazarou So I’ve heard. I have a friend who lives there, a political writer/expert. He’s been saying this for awhile too. @Pachacutec
@Lazarou @GottaLaff @Pachacutec Agreed. This house gave up on the BBC before that, after Scotland’s independence referendum. The BBC is nothing but a colonial mouthpiece for Westminster, and says nothing to promote Scotland’s interest.
@Lazarou @GottaLaff @Pachacutec in Scotland we gave up during the referendum in 2014. It was appallingly bad and absolutely blatant.
They don’t care who sees it
@GottaLaff @Pachacutec We can't shout this loudly enough. The back-down was, effectively, by the Trump administration.
@GottaLaff @Pachacutec
Definitely buried the lede:
"But President Petro appeared to object to the return of deportees on military rather than civilian flights - and to the way the migrants may be treated on those military flights.
In his posts on X, Petro referenced a news video showing migrants deported from the US to Brazil, who had been handcuffed and had their feet restrained during the deportation flight.
He said that he would 'never allow Colombians to be returned handcuffed on flights'."
@anne I've added to that thread.
@GottaLaff Just agreeing with you
Did no-one serious think that 25% on Coffee imports into the US wouldn't tank their economy
@NovaNaturalist Which I didn't. @Pachacutec @BBCNews
@GottaLaff @Pachacutec never expect any truth in anything on the BBC's news site. If you find any, it's there by accident or oversight.
@GottaLaff "The row marks a low point in relations between the two countries, which historically have been allies" is a phrase we're likely to see often in news reports for the next four years.
@GottaLaff Not doubting you or @Pachacutec , but I like to go to the source when dealing with controversial subjects like this one, and I can't find any USA press release for this new agreement (probably because I'm not used to where the USA puts things; I found https://www.state.gov/press-releases/ through a web search, but it's not there). Do you know where I can find any official link (from either the USA or Colombia) which states the real terms for that agreement? Not even the Wikipedia article has it.
Try news species outside of the US. This are probably being censored here, besides medical communications.
