Stupidity of the Trump Regime!
Richard Grenell, Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions of United States, has a new interpretation of the Budapest Memorandum.
Ukraine gave up our nuclear weapons in exchange for a commitment to protect us by Russia, United Kingdom and United States, not because they "were Russia's", of course.
This is a dangerous precedent and an even more dangerous path. Global security is at stake.

@Free_Press Intellectually bankrupt. Technically everything that existed in what is now Ukraine that was there during the USSR was not Ukrainian because Ukraine didn't exist. But then Ukraine did exist, and they did have those nukes. They gave them up for protection against Russia and now the US has turned their back on Ukraine and is siding with Russia.
The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was a semi-autonomous (on paper at any rate) member state of the greater Society Union from 1922 until the union's disillusion in 1991. They even held a seat in the UN general assembly post 1945, and held a seat on the UN security council twice. Just to be clear, I am simply saying it is not accurate to say that Ukraine did not exist before 1991.
@nuintari I think most people think Soviet Ukraine is different than the Ukraine that came after the fall of the USSR, but I'm certainly not an expert.
@arrrg It is certainly a convoluted mess, nothing about the USSR was simple, not even the history.
@arrrg
The Ukrainian is way older than 1991.
The Russian occupation starts 1917 by Lenin's Russian Revolution.
With the revolutionary change from Russia to USSR in 1922 Ukrainian became the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. After WW2 as a constituent republic USSR had placed nuclear arsenal against the US and the free west there.
This arsenal was never Russian.
