Tesla vehicles suffer fatal accidents at a rate that's twice the industry average, according to a new report. Bankrupting Tesla is a multi-level public service.
Tesla Has the Highest Fatal Accident Rate of All Auto Brands, Study Finds
@DemocracyMattersALot You don't need a dipshit owner to not buy a Tesla. This Fatal accident rate would keep most people away from them as the insurance rates would balloon.
Cue FARS being shut down in 3… 2…
@DemocracyMattersALot i thinks its more about who drives the cars rather than the cars themselves
although the cybertruck is pretty shit
@DemocracyMattersALot To be fair, the article seems to be suggesting that the main problem is the kind of people who buy Teslas like to drive really fast really drunk.
@cherold
It's a part of the problem. A proper study would at least divide the accidents by if the driver of the “dangerous vehicle” was at fault.
There is a difference between being slammed so hard that you die, and just slammed so your battery is on fire and you die because the doors operate only with power present.
For me sacrificing Tesla is okay, but I don't think that we should do it using bad wankeeteering studies, when there are so much other good reasons.
@DemocracyMattersALot Don't try the rockets whatever you do!
@shannonpersists @DemocracyMattersALot , the unmanned ones for fireworks when I'm proposing to someone, maybe.
@DemocracyMattersALot
Modern car designs have improved safety. However, there isn't a direct impact on fatal accidents, and some modern features probably have a negative impact.
With Tesla's, I think some factors include Tesla over hyping the capability of safety features such as self driving, evidence many drivers drive less safely if they think their car is safe (made worse if safety features are over hyped), touch screens reduce driver safety.
So, I'm not surprised Tesla's are involved in more fatalities.
@DemocracyMattersALot That link doesn't work. It is probably due to its Javascript working poorly with the security extensions I use.
@DemocracyMattersALot And on the bright side, many anti-EV, pro-fossil fuels Republicans are suddenly buying Teslas to support Elno.
@DemocracyMattersALot I think Road and Track must have an axe to grind given the propagandist nature of this report. It is completely at odds with other research I have seen that demonstrate EVs and Tesla's are involved in far less accidents than ICE vehicles. In Australia, between 2010 and 2022 there were 8 fires involving EVs. I think this might be unreliable data.
Can't wait to hear my brother tell me that "Road & Track" are "woke" now.
I hate Elon Musk as much as anyone and would drive a Flintstones car before I got a Tesla. But the report that Road & Track cites has been criticized for not releasing any of the research data they base their conclusion on:
