If Musk weren't such a lamebrain, he might have responded that the "look of the future" was primarily an aesthetic contrivance, not prediction. It was meant for priming the audience to consider different circumstances. Also, it's a trope. Reality is not supposed to conform to tropes.
This would have been more obvious if, instead of a stupid boxy car, he started dressing in shiny metal onesies.
