Archaeologists have discovered that humans discovered metallurgy much earlier than previously thought. Hunter-gather societies worked copper as early as 9,000 years ago. This is thousands of years earlier than previously thought. Using advanced technology such as x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy it has been confirmed that copper smelting was much earlier, leading to a re-think of metallurgy history. https://archaeology.org/news/2025/03/17/new-evidence-emerges-on-origins-of-metallurgy/
