TSA says it intercepted 6,678 firearms at airport security checkpoints last year and 94% of the weapons were loaded. https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/USDHSTSA/2025/01/15/file_attachments/3132695/Firearms%20Discovered%20at%20TSA%20Checkpoints%20in%202024.pdf
@w7voa It is remarkably stupid to carry a firearm into an airport, but I have to confess that I habitually carry a pocket knife (or a Leatherman multitool, which has a blade), I have forgotten to leave it at home when travelling, and thus have had to trash or surrender it at a checkpoint. I am that absentminded. So I can believe the "concealed carry" freaks are both stupid and absentminded.
@tinydoctor @w7voa its in their carry on luggage no on their person.
@tinydoctor @KevinATC @w7voa I don't know that it is healthy for folks who are absent-minded enough to forget a weapon in their luggage to have said weapon. They are a danger to others, yes, but they are also a danger to themselves.
@fsjr @KevinATC @w7voa The whole point of having a weapon is to be a danger to others, and yourself. Knives have other purposes than slicing people open, but the designed purpose of firearms is to punch holes in other living creatures, to kill, wound, or maim. Some guns owners are more responsible about holding death in their hands, but that is what guns are for.
@fsjr @KevinATC @w7voa Firearms training is (or should be) about holding death in your hands without killing or maiming living creatures that are not your target. And what or who is an appropriate target when. Opinions differ. Even the well trained fuck up. Holding death in your hands is...holding death in your hands. One rule I follow is don't use a gun to negotiate.
