My GF last night: Did you hear about LeBron James?
Me: I don't care.
GF: You didn't hea..
Me: I really don't care.
GF: You didn't read about it anywhere???
Me: Did he save someone's life?
GF: No?
Me: Did he break up a child rape club?
GF: No.
ME: Did he cure cancer?
GF: No!
Me: Was it some sports thingy?
GF: Yes!
Me: Then I definitely don't care.
@Mrfunkedude I'm with you. People around here are so excited about the game.
Meh.
@pburke46 @Mrfunkedude I’m not into sports, but lots of people are, and if I expect them to at least fake a polite interest in my boring-to-them interests, I figure it’s only polite that I pay them the same courtesy.
@cautionwip @pburke46 to a stranger or a casual friend, sure, I'll entertain their excitement.
But the GF and I are always straight shooters with each other. Plus I knew it would playfully irritate her if I said I didn't care.
@Mrfunkedude @pburke46 Gotcha. It seemed surprisingly uncharacteristic. Me, I’ve found over the years that I have a lot more fun when I try & take an interest or participate in my partners’ & friends’ ass’t passions. I either learn something I actually enjoy, or confirm my pre-existing impression that it’s “not my cup of tea”. Juggling was cool & continued, fire spinning is wonderful, fire breathing was short-lived (see my avatar for why) & knitting is a mysterious and inaccessible thing to me
@pburke46 @cautionwip we’ve been together 10 years now. She knew before she even asked the question that I didn’t care. She just wanted to tell me something about her day, and I used it to tease her playfully. We do that with each other a lot. There’s no ego between us, so we take everything from each other with good intentions. I never think that she’s trying to be mean, or hurtful, because she never is. She allows me the same courtesy. So far it’s s worked out great for each other.
@Mrfunkedude @pburke46 Fair cop, and I wasn’t meaning to criticize. I’ve never been in a relationship where there was no teasing and I’m sorry if that came across as criticism. I was speaking in more general terms.
@cautionwip @pburke46 honestly, I didn’t take it as criticism at all. We good.
