It’s 2024. Elon Musk Rules X. And the Political World Is Still Addicted.

"Two years after words like Mastodon, BlueSky, Post and Threads became rallying cries and users declared war on the blue check, those who made Twitter what it was in the days before Musk have returned to using X."

"Last year, Democratic candidates spent more than a million bucks on Twitter ads, The Washington Post reported."

NOTUS · It’s 2024. Elon Musk Rules X. And the Political World Is Still Addicted.Paid ads for political candidates are all over the platform, and politics insiders are secretly buying blue checks.

This is disappointing to read but I'm not really surprised. It seemed like a lot of people on who joined around the time I did aren't active on here anymore. 😔 2/

@noellemitchell

I tried hard to message and reach out to folks I communicated with regularly on the bird site and some came to Mastodon but most didn't.

I started an account on BluSky and CounterSocial but have come to spend most of my time and energy here ---

@kbsez What were the reasons for them not wanting to come over to Mastodon?

I spend most of my time on Mastodon too, it's the most interesting social media platform for me.

@noellemitchell@mstdn.social @kbsez@mastodon.social I was on mastodon for a bit but for me personally it just lacked cool features and aesthetics, which when I saw how much fun it was posting on something like Sharkey, I jumped into that as soon as I could.

There isn't really a bad choice, I think presenting multiple options that lead to the same thing is a better way to go in my opinion.

@NumbersCanBeFun @noellemitchell

yeah, I've been trying to find a way off #Reddit for a while now

@kbsez@mastodon.social @noellemitchell@mstdn.social I was on reddit for like almost a decade. I nuked my account when the whole API thing popped off. Sharkey took some getting used too but now that I've settled in on this corner of the internet I am super happy. This is way better than reddit ever was :neocat_laugh::sharkey:

@noellemitchell

I think part of the issue/confusion at first, and this happened with me, was the whole "select the right instance" and perception that you wouldn't easily be able to communicate with friends who went to other instances

There was a lot of confusion on that and too many instances to chose from versus the bird site and others where it was all one service

I remember researching it for a few days trying to chose--- people want easy and a lot of them are not hard core tech folk

@noellemitchell when I left 2 years ago Twitter was frustrating to use from so many ads, trolls and bots...how people tolerate it i won't understand.
