All I’m saying is, if the whole neighborhood comes out and blocks the streets in their innocent curiosity every time ICE raids something, the mission planning gets more complex, the manpower needs much higher, and the risk to ICE goes up. Makes ‘em have to think about it more. So y’know, absolutely do not do such a thing.
@mcnado I was part of a group that did this in Bend, Oregon in the summer of 2020. We blocked an ICE bus as long as we could, but the police came and pushed everyone out of the way. It felt good to be a part of action, but we failed to stop anything.
Stand on the sidewalk and hold up a small sign.
There's a completely unintuitive sociological term called "pluralistic ignorance." It describes a phenomenon where a plurality or majority of people in a group share similar views, but each assumes that they are the only one who thinks that way due to lack of communication about the topic. Sometimes all it takes is for one person to step out and say "this is wrong."
@firefly eh, you made them have to coordinate with local LEOs, and for any future operations there they have to have a “bus got blocked again” plan. Sand in the gears.
@Sfwmson @firefly that is what they want you to feel. They might. They might not. Every operation has a cost — manpower, fuel, time, accommodations, injuries. The thin blue line is indeed thin. The more firepower they deploy, the more planning it takes, and if things go south, the more likely it is that someone ends up out of action. Cops injure each other all the time during training and during operations. Running around with guns is dangerous.
I agree, just meant that people will be less apt to show up after a few confrontations. I 100% agree we all need to put on our big boy pants and show up, tho!
My first ever (very small) protest in my older age was a small BLM walk and meeting on a green near us.
The vitriol from passing cars and trucks def stung, but we quickly got over it.
@mcnado curious crowd with cameras pointing, preferably.
@mcnado YES! Do not obey in advance - Sabotage is the act of reducing efficiency
@mcnado Just out for a walk in my cute boots :)
@mcnado this was exactly what was done in Glasgow. the Immigration van was entirely surrounded by local people
And it all came to head when the crew of the Immigration vehicle came to the end of their shift. So they had to release their prisoner..
no one's showing up to stop the nationwide hunting and sweeping of people too poor to live indoors.
i want to believe that people in the US will stand up for immigrants, but most don't even give a shit about homeless Americans. or they actively HATE us.
@mcnado Yeah, we did this in Glasgow a couple years back. People power works! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenmure_Street_protests
@mcnado This is how you block that stuff in Glasgow here in Scotland
