@thomasfuchs Thank you for this reminder.
My spouse drove his car about a block's length down a street which was under water. He didn't notice exactly how deep it was as the street had no curbs against which he could gauge water depth. Ruined the engine of his year-old Chrysler 300, had to replace it.
Like you said, don't do it. Even with curbed streets don't do it because it's hard to say when water will suddenly swamp a street during/after a storm event.
@femme_mal @thomasfuchs and potholes becoming much bigger potholes, bridges washed away doesn’t mean railings always are, gentle slopes can still lead to deep water, sinkholes, submerged debris, the list goes on. I’m constantly amazed local warnings have to be given here in Aus no matter how many people are stranded or killed when doing this
@europlus @femme_mal @thomasfuchs This. You should never assume the road is still there under the water.

and...
DON'T BLOW THROUGH ROAD BLOCKS!!
@europlus @femme_mal @thomasfuchs My favorite supporting fact: year after year, about 2/3 of flood victims in the US die in their cars.
