FediTips has moved!

If you want to let people know about your account on here, it's important to include your full account address (also known as a "Fediverse address").

If you paste a full Fediverse account address into the search box on any server, it will always make the account profile appear, even if previous searches drew a blank.

You can exchange account addresses with others just like you might exchange email addresses or phone numbers.

Find out more here:

➡️ fedi.tips/whats-my-accounts-ad

p.s. This works for addresses from Mastodon but also addresses from other Fediverse platforms too.

You can copy and paste addresses from Pixelfed, PeerTube, BookWyrm etc into Mastodon's search box, their profiles will appear and you'll be able to follow them from Mastodon. Their posts will appear in your normal Mastodon feed.

@feditips Las imagenes estan bien, pero no se, ya que has empezado con las imagenes de tu identidad del fediverse que es >>>> @feditips las otras imagenes creo debian seer las mismas y no una de pixelfed, sin acritud, es para que se entienda mejor.

@feditips just curious, you seem to be big on small servers and self-hosting (you have an instance called growyourownservices) so why is the fedi.tips account hosted on a semi big instance like mstdn social, nothing bad about that server but why not growyourownservices?

@10volt

Good question!

Mstdn.social was much smaller when I joined it! (Also, incidentally, it is totally different to mastodon.social, it has a different owner).

When I set up my own server at GYOS I moved all my main accounts there except FediTips as I didn't want to have all my eggs in one basket. If my server goes down or gets damaged somehow, I don't want it to wipe out all the major accounts.

The main large server my posts warn about is mastodon.social, as it is many times bigger.

@feditips

On Tusky, hit the three little dots on the top right of an account.

Then use share username of account.

Share, then they can stick it in search.

@feditips also it is important to share the account URL outside of here (or both), else e.g. a mail. program thinks it is a mail address. Maybe should have used % or so.

@oliverg @feditips Maybe it's time for social: URLs, like mailto:

@brie @oliverg

If you include the @ at the start, mailto will not think it is an email address.

@oliverg @brie

I'm not sure what you mean? It should work fine in the search box if you include the @ at the beginning.

@oliverg @brie

Ah, okay...!

I'm not talking about web addresses. I mean the address on the profile itself.

@feditips @brie I know. Question is: how do I point ppl to my fediverse addresses.

@feditips This search shows nothing on various instances every now and then.

@nefoun_qu_jw

If you repeat the search it should work, unless your instance has blocked the account or its home instance.

@feditips iirc do full URLs (i.e. mstdn.social/@feditips) also work, right?
At least last time I checked it did. :blobfoxthinking:

@andre_601

Yes they do too, and also the URL of a post from another server will bring up that post on your server.

@feditips I hope someday we can untie our identity from our current host. The fediverse should find a way to incorporate Nostr relays into the network.
