He removed the cropping on Mastodon so pictures are displayed at full height and full width. This means if a picture is very tall, it totally dominates the timeline and you have to scroll many many times just to get past it.

So far it's only being tested on mastodon.social and some other instances, but it's due to be in the full release if things carry on as they are.
