You don't need to use the official Mastodon apps, they're not the best way to use Mastodon. The official apps only arrived last year, and they were intended as "Fisher Price My First Mastodon" things with a restricted set of features.
Third party apps have been around longer than official ones, and include way more features. You can sign in with the same account on all apps.
On Android try Tusky, Fedilab, Megalodon, Tooot
On iPhone/iPad, try Toot!, Ice Cubes, Ivory, Mona
@feditips Are any of them free?
Tusky, Megalodon, Tooot are free (Fedilab is free if you get it from @fdroidorg )
Ice Cubes is free, Mona is semi-free (it has a paid mode and a free mode)
But, I think it's important that we get used to paying for apps. These apps don't spy on us or send ads at us, so they need to get their money from somewhere.
@feditips @obscureprophet @fdroidorg I have zero problem paying for apps like this. But I’m not a fan of monthly subscription fees. Which I know limits my options away from some of the clients making a big splash recently.
