So... good alternatives to Proton Mail?
@emkingma on Fastmail for business, which is, you know, fine
@rgarner I'll add them to my list to check out.
@emkingma
I just switched to runbox.com. They're in Norway, and may or may not be E2EE - but I barely care anymore at this point. They're all scams. Every last one of them. About the best we can do is decide which of the bad options is the least likely to cause damage for your particular threat model, and that you can live with their moral position. With proton, I cannot.
@sb yeah, I can't support them anymore as a paying customer with this BS.
@emkingma
I'm right there with ya.
I've looked at about a dozen providers over the last few days. Out of all the big ones (for example, those listed on alternativeto.net), only runbox and mailbox.org seem even remotely trustworthy :(
Like browsers, email is a sad state of affairs right now.
@emkingma Personally i use tutamail
@joel_hammarling I'll add them to my list to check out. Thanks.
@emkingma Not accessible to most ppl at present, but the right solution is empowering folks to run their own.
@dalias that would be great if it weren't for the monopoly on spam detection that all the major providers have got these days.
I can just imagine setting up all the necessary s**t for my domain and stuff still gets slung in with spam.
@emkingma I'm switching my email to iCloud since custom domains are included in the $1/month I'm already paying there, and it's a devil I know I guess.
I'm switching my passwords back to Bitwarden, because the $10/year pro plan there does everything I need.
I don't know what I'm gonna replace Proton VPN with yet.
@joby I was only using Proton for email a bit. I've been paying for a few years but never fully committed and now I won't.
I already use alternative providers for passwords and VPN.
@sleepyfox I'll add that to my list of services to have a look at. Thanks.
@emkingma I use it. It works. It's not as convenient as more advanced offerings, but the privacy and control were more important to me.
@emkingma
Posteo.de is my recommendation, it costs 1€ per month but is generally excellent also coming with a caldav server aswell
