About that prison that the #USA sent the #Venezuelans to— the president of El Salvador said back in early February:
“We are willing to take in only convicted criminals (including convicted US citizens) into our mega-prison (CECOT) in exchange for a fee… (which) would be relatively low for the US but significant for us, making our entire prison system sustainable.”

So that’s disturbing.
I’m thinking— 1) US citizens too?!?!
and also— 2) my have things changed in a little over a month because as far as I know, the Venezuelans that were deported weren’t even proven to be gang members, never mind afforded due process and properly convicted of something.
@dalfen super disturbing. This is straight up just kidnapping people and making them your slaves. In 2025
@Utah44 Yes. Seems like human trafficking with prisoners. Prisoner trafficking.
@thepoliticalcat True. But I say “prisoner trafficking” because prisoners are needed resources for the bottom lines of prisons —like cattle are necessary for cattle farms. Without due process, those Venezuelans could be slaves for life to that prison system in El Salvador. The president of El Salvador even said that the fees he receives from foreign countries like the US (when the countries send them their prisoners) make his prison system “sustainable.”
@dalfen the only difference is the type of work the kidnapped slaves will be doing.
@dalfen
And yet, those sent there did not have convictions.
"US pays El Salvador to imprison and enslave citizens of any nationality deported from Trump's America."
Fixed it for you, CNN.
