Deeply disappointed, though unsurprised, and ultimately worried, about how so many people in positions of power and visibility have decided they just need to muddle through the coming Trump term and not make waves, or even try to capitalize on it.
Does not bode well for our collective ability to resist sliding fully into autocracy, oligarchy, single-party rule, fascism, etc.
@cammerman I do have *fantasies* but recognize them as such that at least one or two of those people are being two-faced, and doing sneaky things on the side? Like the guy that infiltrated the Prowed Buoys?
@geonz @cammerman Some of them probably think they are. Unfortunately, walking like a nazi, talking like a nazi, and doing useful work for the nazis, tends to outweigh whatever they accomplish through the infiltration.
Claus von Stauffenberg managed to get a lot of Allied troops killed, and zero Hitlers. I think that's a typical score card at the end of the day for the "good nazis."
@wrosecrans @cammerman there was a recent real one (including dealing with the "who am I, really?" issue...)
Elites always think they’ll be safe. Their assumption is that any new leader will follow the unwritten code of protecting fellow elites. British ‘nobles’ and rich people favoured Hitler for this reason.
