The Alchemist

Had a lovely afternoon in the studio. I was throwing some forms like this tea bowl. My plan is to trim a foot of a small circumference on the bottom of it so that it looks like it is floating on the table ✨

@alchemistsstudio I really look forward to seeing how your tea bowl(s?) turn out. What I see from this, leads me to think it may be a bowl that I'd be happy with.

And I should follow you over at @JigmeDatse@social.openpsychology.net where I'm moving to, and which is a lot more manageable than here.

@jigmedatse@social.jigmedatse.com @JigmeDatse@social.openpsychology.net That's very nice to hear! Eventually I do hope to have some available to purchase. I'll be posting some on here as well.
Hope you have a nice day.

@alchemistsstudio looks lovely. I always tend to make small feet, whether it's intentional or an accident, haha!

@rose Thank you! I like that aesthetic on a tea bowl. I tried it on a taller drinking vessel, might have gone a bit too far 😂😂😂

@alchemistsstudio I'm a sucker for tea bowls. Still working on my throwing strength, so tea bowls and cups are usually my jam anyways. Definitely want to get into making more taller drinking vessels!

@rose They're all fun to make. I remember when I first started throwing, i always wanted to see how tall I could throw to challenge myself. I hope you have fun playing in the mud 😊

@alchemistsstudio playing in the mud is fun. Trimming and glazing are another beast, haha. At least for me

@rose I really love trimming, but I may be weird

@rose Your content warning both scared me and made me laugh 😂😂😂
I've trimmed through a pot once, and odds are it will happen at least once more.
I agree with your friends though. Maybe practice on your wonky pots till you feel confident? I remember when I first started out how sad it would be to lose a piece too.
I've also had a pot or two fly off the wheel 😂😂😂

@alchemistsstudio I've had plenty of all accounts. I need to kill my darlings. I get too attached, or the complete opposite -- not attached at all, and then I feel no drive to even do anything to it. I can't find the good medium. Any tips?

@rose Make lots of mistakes. Those are when I learn or grow the most. Any tips for me?

@alchemistsstudio gosh, took me awhile to think of something. I guess my top tips are: keep connecting with & learning from other artists, each one has a unique story to tell; and keep trying new things. In and out of the studio. I strongly believe the wider your perspective and range of experience, the stronger your relationship with inspiration is.

@rose That's some great advice. Thank you for sharing and this really lovely conversation. I'm in a very rural area, so it's great to connect with people here.
