So. Time that a rabbi said it, so I'll be that guy:
The Divine-Authorized Conquest Of The Holy Land is a horrendous, toxic narrative that's been used to justify untold atrocities, including now.
AND it never happened.
Looking at what likely DID happen may actually be critical at this moment.
Read and share:
@TheRaDR (important typo alert:
"Israeli attacks have killed nearly 28,000 Palestinian human beings. 28,00.")
@marnanel Phew, good catch, thank you
@TheRaDR Honestly, I think anyone who claims "$deity commands us to take this chunk of land and kill anyone else who happens to be on it" needs to find a new deity.
@TheRaDR Insightful and educational as always, Rabbi.
@pooserville Thank you!!
@TheRaDR I had a professor point out the curious circumstance of David getting a new general, a new high priest, and a new wife, immediately after the “conquest” of the Jebusites. Almost as if instead of destroying them he formalized an alliance and married into their royal family.
Wowser. That sorta puts the whole rationale for the Torah in question...
@tuban_muzuru Welp, we'll get there at some point... There are A Lot Of Theories.
@TheRaDR This is an amazing read, thank you.
@recursive Thank you!!
@TheRaDR You mean, David, Solomon, Samuel, the prophets…everything after Moses? (I've only read the Christian Bible, years ago.)
@TheRaDR Having read it, I think it's a pretty interesting essay. Thanks!
@eyesquash Thank you!!
