@Strandjunker As a European, I find it fascinating how Americans expect their politicians to have ‘courage’ while their entire system is designed to make real change impossible. Maybe the problem isn’t Schumer or Fetterman, but the illusion that anyone in US politics can actually do something meaningful.

@contrasocial @Strandjunker I don’t think it’s just cowardice. The system is designed in a way that makes real change almost impossible. Any politician who pushes too hard either gets blocked or loses their position. Most of them just play by the rules of the game because if they don’t, they’ll just be replaced by someone more 'conventional.' It’s not about courage, it’s about survival within the system.
Yes, I get the vague cynicism thing aimed at trying to tamp down on Americans attempting to get their politicians to do anything, I'm saying in this case they literally had a practical option to stop the bill if they as individuals wanted to stop it
As corrupted as the US system is, the procedure of our institutions is still functioning at the moment. Once those opportunities are definitively exhausted, you'll end up getting what you want to see.
