As long as I live, I will never understand why America would rather elect a singularly worthless white rapist as president than an exceptionally impressive black woman.
@Strandjunker BC so many saw a guy just like themselves running for prez.
@Strandjunker understanding why is what people should be thinking about.
I got a two words explanation : ignorance and racism.
@snag @Strandjunker or sum up both with : stupidity
@Strandjunker Democrats were using tactics that are 50 yrs old and failed badly. I am embarrassed that we elected the sickest individual on the planet.. there is no coming back from this.
@DRBLD2009 @Strandjunker democrats believe in equality, they fight to tie in the middle. Republicans fight to win so the worst they’ll end up with is a stalemate until they win.
@DRBLD2009 @Strandjunker Seems to me is the people who badly failed.
There is NO justification or explanation to elect a criminal supported by a bunch of people who only seek money, power and want to reinstate slavery.
None. N O N E
@DRBLD2009 @Strandjunker what were the 50 yr old tactics?
@Strandjunker You have to tell most voters what they want to hear. There is a traditional American script. Americans want to hear that they are OK, not bad; hard work will be rewarded and with that & a little luck you can get to the top; even if you're down, you can pick up, dust off, & start again; & if there is anything wrong is the the fault of Others--foreigners, POCs, gays, druggies, layabouts, hippies; those who are 'not US.' The Black woman did not deliver that message. The rapist did.
@Subsaev @Strandjunker I think we still have a problem with people imagining a woman as Commander in Chief. it would be very helpful if we could get some female Secretary of Defense candidates, which probably means more female 4-stars.
@claralistensprechen3rd @Strandjunker Well, they're not hearing that from Trump. What church does he attend? Damned if I know. Church of Golf?
@Strandjunker
90million didn’t vote, + those that did (for the criminal) tells us everything about the USA education system.
@Strandjunker racism? fear?
If you ever find an answer, please let the sane half of us know.
Mind-boggling, to me, are the faithful. He's everything faith tells them not to be.
@Sfwmson @Strandjunker
It's waaaaay worse than that.
They no longer accept the words of their own god.
I see many answers in this thread as to 'Why' Trump.
There is one answer that seems to be missing--one word--
CHOREOGRAPHY.

Sorry to disagree.
She prioritised corporate interests over citizens.
She backs the genocide. She gaslit those who speak out of protest against it. She banned Palestinian voices at her DNC, where they openly mocked deaf children.
So not so impressive.
@rzeta0 @Strandjunker But STILL a better choice than the orange rapist, right?
That isn't a certainty. Let me explain.
If you have family, friends in Gaza, it is practically 100% certain a new Democrat administration would continue the utterly unprecedented massacres.
If there's even a 1% lower chance under that wildcard unpredictable Trump, then it is understandable why you'd want the Democrats replaced.
If it were my family, I would want the Democrats out with every fibre in my body. They are evil. Because evil is what they are doing.
@rzeta0 @Strandjunker But still better than the Republicans??!
I fear you don't understand and are unlikely to.
I tried.
Perhaps others who read this will see if they didn't previously.
Have a good evening.
@rzeta0 @Strandjunker Exactly, I don't understand. I understand the few with friends and family in the warzone might be more likely to buy the lies of wanting to make changes. But the lies were so obvious, so clear to the rest of the world.
They don't want to make changes for anybody but the richest, don't want to do any foreign policy that will hurt their income.
Everybody could see that. Except a whole lot of American voters. I just don't get it.
@claralistensprechen3rd @Strandjunker @Ellegaarddk
where did I say it was the opinion of the most?
the majority opinion was to vote the Democrats out.
@Ellegaarddk
Think of it ikke this: a new democrat would, with 100% certainty, continue the genocide. Trump, for all his faults, represented a change from the status quo which is currently genocide.
So, do you vote for genocide or throw the dice? On this matter some people wouldn’t vote for a genocide enabler.
Will trump be worse? We won’t know for a while yet. Personally I’m hoping his kakistocracy will end the US empire and the Zionist entity with it.
@Mogleg @Ellegaarddk @rzeta0 @Strandjunker Maybe it's the cynic in me, but I find the notion that Americans voted in large numbers for Trump because they were sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinian people really quite absurd.
I also find the idea that the world needs to 'wait and see' before it knows what Trump's position on Israel might be... somewhat naive.
But hey, maybe I'm wrong.
@JimBliss @Mogleg @Ellegaarddk @Strandjunker
Jim
Many people voted against Harris because of genocide. Against means they voted independent, or didn't vote. Voting trump wasn't the only option.
Nobody is saying it was the largest factor in the Democrat defeat.
The numerically larger factors were her prioritisation of corporate interests, her inauthenticity, and her stupid decisions to align with people like Liz Cheney which sends out a powerful message.
** And an inability to listen **
@rzeta0 @JimBliss @Mogleg @Ellegaarddk @Strandjunker
> ** And an inability to listen **
NOT an inability. An absolute refusal. Except, of course, when it comes to listening to billionaires and corporations. And Israel.
@JimBliss
I don’t think the issue of genocide entered the average Trump voter’s mind to be frank. Rather, Harris failed to present a compelling reason for her candidacy and her stance on genocide was one of several factors that had a negative impact.
@rzeta0 puts this more eloquently than me in their response.
@rzeta0 @Ellegaarddk @Strandjunker I beg to disagree: Because there is a HUGE network of jewish voters which would be lost (they think) if they got tough with the Government of Israel.
@BearGriffin @Ellegaarddk @Strandjunker
so that excuses genocide?
@claralistensprechen3rd @Strandjunker
so she's even less impressive
@claralistensprechen3rd @Strandjunker
how is enabling genocide impressive?
if we was a vegetarian and a lover of dogs would that excuse her support for genocide?
@claralistensprechen3rd @Strandjunker
what is the error?
@claralistensprechen3rd @Strandjunker
America voted against Harris.
A significant factor was her support for genocide.
Other, numerically bigger factors, include her prioritising corporate interests and courting people like Liz Cheney.
Did you misread my original reply?
Listen to Bernie who has a clue:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weSfx7XmALA
@Strandjunker @rzeta0 Bernie isn't a Democrat, hon. Looks like you failed to notice that. He's just as great at back-seat driving as you are.
You also failed to notice that Trump has corporate interests, so Harris' alleged acquisition of those is false. Courting Never-Trump Republicans is what any responsible President-for-all-Americans would do, so that's false too.
You're failing to recognize that she lost the union/labor vote, and she lost the Hispanic demographic, and what those two have in common is WASP misogyny even though the Ws in WASP don't recognize Hispanics as W. WASPs are full-throated supporters of Israel, so you're telling me that Harris lost to a genocidal fan of Netanyahu's because of Biden's policies. That's just outright ridiculous.
@claralistensprechen3rd @Strandjunker @rzeta0
The choice between a racist, rapist & fascist candidate, and an accomplished Vice President POC who accepts our democratic norms is easy; Tariq is making the point that adding the complication of choosing between a supporter of the Gaza genocide, and trump who supports multiple genocides made the choice an ethically challenging one for many progressives. That is the conundrum Ms. Junker, and the Democratic Party can't acknowledge. #Palestine
@claralistensprechen3rd@friendica.mOf yportal.social @Strandjunker @rzeta0
The universe has an axiom: there are no genocides without consequences. Two things can both be true: trump is horrible, the worst president ever, and that V. P. Harris's unconditional support of a now indicted war criminal, Netayahu, cost her the votes of many progressives, & helped endanger our democracy. I voted for Harris, but I respect idealists who couldn't vote for someone joined at the hip with genocidal Israel. #Palestine
@Strandjunker money, as usual. They want it and he convinced them the reason they don’t have it is because of people like her. It allowed them to not feel bad about failing, they weren’t not good enough the game just wasn’t fair. He took away their guilt and gave them hope for the future, that’s why he won. It was a lie but it still worked.
@Strandjunker Trump made fun of a handicapped reporter to his face, live on camera with the national watching. Gleefully. You traded someone who didn’t care earnestly enough for someone who doesn’t even care enough to hide his disdain.
@Strandjunker Patriarchy explains all of those things.
Rape is a patriarchal show of force, and thus status-giving. Worthless doesn’t matter because patriarchal status is much more valuable. White is higher in the American patriarchal hierarchy. Man is obviously higher in a patriarchal hierarchy.
He also displays a lot of things that are strengthening patriarchy, like anti-trans and anti-science.
Patriarchy might not explain everything about why he won, though.
Because 5 months isn't enough time to mount an effective campaign.
Also, a big chunk of the Democratic voter base that voted for Obama and Biden were unwilling to vote for a woman.
@Strandjunker ……… nor why so many (Dems) sat by and watched it happpen ……..
@Strandjunker Unfortunately, it is simple: About 5 million US voters DO NOT think that a woman can be president (See also Hillary's vote). I counted about a 3 million person drop in Democratic vote each time the Dems proposed a woman. Sigh.
The poles leading up to the vote said it: Who will do a better job for Economy or Foreign affairs? No one asked "WHY THE FXXX do you think that a failure at running SUCCESSFUL businesses would do better?
@Strandjunker because they cared so much about Palestinian genocide - see they are flying in droves in region to protect them right - led by Jill Stein - yeah right, and because the thsi booming economy is not helping the ones at the bottom of the pyramid - so the only way to fix it is by sending even more to the top. Nothing at all to do with protecting their existing privileges, wealth and worse their belief in the same thing as the felons side but just cowardly enough to go vote for him.
