I wanted to give Threads a chance, so I used it for a little while. Hey, look at all the brands posting unfunny attempts to be funny! And hey, Moms for Liberty and LibsOfTikTok doing the same evil shit they do on Twitter! Paris Hilton! Paid blue checks everywhere!

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Threads fucking stinks.

@GottaLaff But all this means is that LTT will now be more careful about how they word their hateful shit.

@Green_Footballs Oh I know. I was just sharing one decent bit of info.

All of it is so damn frustrating.

@GottaLaff @Green_Footballs I’m glad they pulled her crap, this will be one of the tests for Threads, that account is pure hate.

@NorCal_Lynne They need to be consistent though. But yes, it's one good thing. @Green_Footballs

@GottaLaff @NorCal_Lynne @Green_Footballs

If they only remove offending hate speech tweets and not suspend the accounts that repeatedly post hate speech, there is an incentive for those accounts to keep on posting it and spreading hate and testing boundaries. No incentive to stop. They’ll probably post even more. This keeps the convo & focus on them & whether x speech has been “censored” & spreads publicity 4 anti trans hate further. Community accountability & bans are the only way to fight it

@GottaLaff

I really think Mastodon’s defederation model is the only way. Yes, the racists can keep speaking to each other, but there is a clear community response and boundary set of what is acceptable to the mainstream conversation and what isn’t.

@NorCal_Lynne @Green_Footballs

@chargrille I completely agree, there is already enough history on such accounts to know they cause societal harm, there should be a line, this isn’t about freedom of speech.

@chargrille @GottaLaff @NorCal_Lynne Exactly. Half-measures like temporary suspensions or deleting posts really serve only one purpose - they educate bad actors on how the rules work and how to get around them to keep posting hateful shit.

@Green_Footballs @chargrille @GottaLaff @NorCal_Lynne
yep – temporary bans are great for things like when somebody loses their temper and says something regrettable (“come back when you’ve cooled off”), but hate speech is a different thing entirely
