Before saying, “the libertarians were right about this, but…”* consider whether a more accurate statement would be, “the anarchists were right about this, and…”

Like, if you think libertarianism has some good points about the state, but hate the property/market bit, then have I got a political philosophy for you.

*Slaps roof of anarchism* “This bad boy can fit so many criticisms of state tyranny in it!”

(*Seen twice in the wild this morning, by liberal constitutionalists)

I’m not even a card-carrying anarchist, but when you make that argument, you do seem to have skipped over an entire political philosophy that focuses entirely on the issues you are concerned about.

@Nickiquote Libertarians want to shrink the state just small enough that they get to enforce their property rights and slave holding with guns.

@Nickiquote I think this is because there is such (quite intentionally) poor social sciences and humanities education in public schools and even in our colleges and universities.

Good exercise: try to find an American at random on the street who can tell you anything at all about the Haymarket Affair (and the fight for the eight-hour day).

@Nickiquote @artemis Anarchists don’t get to write opinion pieces for national newspapers.

@Nickiquote
Sooo many fit, yep. Libertarians are like the anarchists that have a special club handshake and additional morality rules to join society before you can join their exclusive bunker.

No thanks, I'll stay out here where it's not just government 2.0

@Nickiquote

I have always ask myself,what would happen in an anarchist country if someone wants to make a nuclear weapon. Or torture children, or marry them.

Who would have the authority to tell him he is wrong or to stop him?

Would that country be moral? Or do they renounce all morality and the strongest do as he pleases?

I do not expect answer, just sharing my doubts.

@NorbertAir I am very much not an expert but I do understand that people have suggested varying anarchist models of justice systems. And judging by the evidence online, Libertarians are the ones who seem most keen on marrying children.

@Nickiquote I find it very hard to implement such anarchist system in reality without implementing the law of the strongest or some way of communism.

Yes, I agree about the libertarians.
Liberty at all cost tends to oppose morality.

@NorbertAir @Nickiquote
By my understanding, "anarchist country" is an oxymoron anyway. (Maybe "anarchist region/territory" would fit?)

To me the biggest glaring question is, "What keeps organization small in an anarchist region, so no group is powerful enough to reach a dominant or dangerous status?" Because that does seem to be the basic idea — somehow having there not just be no countries, but no large or even medium-size corporations, no organized crime syndicates, etc.
