This summed up my thoughts in a pithy format.

@MistyAtBoulder I never thought I’d be boosting a church sign but here we are, I guess.

@aral Same! The message summed up why I object so viscerally to teaching lies in history, in a far more succinct way than I’d yet managed to vocalize. It just hit me right.

@aral @MistyAtBoulder
Crimethink taught me that it's ok to take good ideas when you see them. The source does not have to be relevant to the benefit an idea can provide

@aral @MistyAtBoulder

Reconciling (aka LGBTQIA+-friendly) Methodists - the people they’re referring to wouldn’t even consider them a “real” church 😉

@kennethb Agreed! I wish I’d been the one to put it to words.

@MistyAtBoulder history class is inevitable doe human race

@MistyAtBoulder Those protecting the same interests are already there!

@kagan It really captured it for me!

@MistyAtBoulder This isn't far from where I grew up. I'm glad to see this in an area that is stifling speech and schools. Nearby in Holland, MI, they are getting rid of sex ed. The church shown is offering AP African American studies online. There's hope.

@JoelBarr @MistyAtBoulder Former resident of Allendale, MI myself. This sign is for Allendale, FL.

I about crapped when I saw it too, but figured there wasn't a Methodist church anywhere in Allendale, MI.

For those not from the area Allendale is very conservative. Like, when the Christian Reformed Church said you had to allow homosexual members churches split. My wife and I housed a girl that grew up in such a house and she visibly shook from anxiety when she was going to meet a gay person in real life for the first time. Her boyfriend's brother.

County removed DEI office after the last election. Changed motto from "Where you belong" to "Let Freedom Reign". Allendale MI also has a statue of a Confederate soldier in the town park despite not a single soldier from Allendale fighting for the Confederacy. All Union soldiers.

Also home to a J6 insurrectionist that ran for MI Governor.

@justinbuist @MistyAtBoulder Sure enough, oops. Florida it is. Thanks for the fact check.

@MistyAtBoulder @lisamelton in engineering it's a sign of naivety and/or stupidity when someone says “I can do it all better, if we forget about prior art".
I don't know if you can be even slightly charitable in politics ..

@BerelYoudovich That was good in the original Anita “Hater” Bryant, and made me laugh with DeSantis as the recipient.

@MistyAtBoulder

Yep. From that bastid Anita Bryant's so-called Save Our Children campaign designed to repeal the then Dade County's nondiscrimination ordinance that had provided for LGBT rights to that PoS Ron deSantis' Don't Say Gay law, the two are one in the same.

@MistyAtBoulder It's still a bit ironic coming from a church, but this is a very good message.

@MistyAtBoulder Friend's comment: Rev. Andy is a badass in the most loving way, does his religion credit. They're also offering AP African American studies for students who are interested.
(also noted that the church hosts the Girls Rock camp his daughter attended)

@crenquis Their webpage definitely looks as if they practice the radical philosophy of loving people. ❤️

@MistyAtBoulder @crenquis This church is in my town and is so badass I often consider attending…and I am an atheist.

@mcmcgreevy @crenquis I’m not religious, but I support any philosophy that leads to acceptance of and love for other people. Life is sufficiently challenging without our making each others’ lives miserable.

@MistyAtBoulder that’s what they want - to repeat it. Those people need to not have power.

@MistyAtBoulder
If I had to be a Christian, I'd be a Methodist. They're alright.*

(*nuance required, of course)

@MistyAtBoulder my favorite variation on that has always been

“Those who remember the past are condemned by those who repeat it.”
