There are practical and political arguments against replacing Biden on the general election ticket. There are also practical and political arguments *for* doing so.
However, it is *not* the case that it is LEGALLY "too late" to change the ticket. The nominating conventions for major parties are held before every state's ballot deadline. Here's a summary of each state's laws, from the National Association of Secretaries of State (the people who run the elections).
https://www.nass.org/sites/default/files/reports/summary-ballot-access-laws-president-june-2024.pdf [pdf]
Note that I am *not* expressing an opinion one way or the other about what should happen here, because I don't yet know enough about the underlying facts of the situation.
But the argument that it's "legally impossible" to change the Democratic (or Republican) ticket at this point is factually false.
@mattblaze You need to research what happens at the state level, especially in GA and NV. There are rules about who won the primary and what happens if someone withdraws. It’s my understanding that in either one or both of those states there would be no on on the Democratic ticket.
@MiriShuli I literally posted those rules.
@mattblaze Great. I literally did not see them. I’ve had enough rudeness for the day. I come in from the heat and this is the first post in my feed. So, please, kindly, go take a hike. Bye.
@MiriShuli Regardless of whether you think I'm rude, you are free to scroll back and read the rules for the states you're interested in at the link I posted.
@mattblaze Thanks, but no. I’ve unfollowed and don’t need one more white man telling me what to do. My suggestions about those two states was because I don’t/didn’tknow exactly how they work. You could have offered some actual info, not “I’ve already posted”. The posts were not threaded, so how I was I to know.
@MiriShuli I may be a white man, i may be rude, but the information is there in the thread you replied to any time you want it.
@mattblaze @MiriShuli I saw no rudeness. Zero. Non. Someone said “you need to research […] There are rules […]”, and you replied that you just had posted them.
@david @mattblaze@federate.social @MiriShuli incompetence.
makes up the rules as he goes along.
@mattblaze @MiriShuli She is anti-education.
She isn't going to read or learn shit.
She's the problem.
@mattblaze @MiriShuli
"unschoolimg" (unschooling spelled incorrectly, which is already a made-up word used by morons)
Useless husk of a "person."
I will admit to being rather ignorant of this but holy shit Matt is this what your replies are *usually* like?
I'm going to be the lone voice stepping up for @MiriShuli, first of all, because, yes, your response was rude, but also second of all, because, as I read it, you're WRONG about Georgia. Georgia says that a party convention has to happen at least 150 days before the convention, or a candidate has to submit 7500 signatures by the 2nd Tues. in July.
But keep being an asshole - you seem to have plenty of supporters.
@SueShannon @MiriShuli You are confusing a political "party" with a political "body" under the (confusing) Georgia election law. I'd explain further, but the tone of your post suggests you're not worth the bother.
I am worth the bother, but your tone has also turned me off.
@SueShannon @MiriShuli You want rude? Go fry ice.
Perhaps if you had acknowledged the confusing rules in your original reply, no one would be frying rice right now....
@SueShannon @MiriShuli Your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberries.
lol, well thank you for turning the tide....shading MY parents is always a bad bet.....my mom in fact could have been a hamster....
And for what its worth, if there is confusion in state rules, that is an issue no matter what the original intent was. Trump will try to make the courts decide what is a political "party" and what is a political "body".
Singing the classics. *sigh*
@mattblaze @SueShannon@mstdn.party @MiriShuli At the CNE some years they sell deep-fried butter, but I don't think they've tried ice.
@mattblaze I'm adding that one to my list.
@SueShannon @mattblaze @MiriShuli
"a party convention has to happen at least 150 days before the convention"
Now I'm REALLY confused.
@MiriShuli @mattblaze
You come in and tell an expert in politics and electoral systems "You need to research blah blah blah"
And then get surprised and offended when he responds (quite evenly I might add, given your tone, I know I wouldn't have been as kind) that he already did what you deigned to tell him to do.
And you tell HIM, on HIS OWN THREAD, to take a hike.
Please correct me if I missed something.
@distractal @mattblaze@federate.social You missed more than one something. But it’s not at all important to anyone but me. Enjoy your evening.
@MiriShuli My apologies if I did miss something, Mastodon frequently has disjointed threads, and I'm just a bit irritable due to the heat and because I've been attacked by several people insisting that Biden is the only path forward and treating me as if I were a small child, so if what I said was incorrect, I do apologize.
@distractal @MiriShuli @mattblaze@federate.social
You mean expert #mysogynist
@66gardeners Oh, is it time for the dogpiling, brigading and hyperbolizing over a small disagreement? Sorry, I missed the Twitter Association for Abusive People standup, can you send me the minutes?
@MiriShuli @mattblaze@federate.social
Matt doesn't do facts
