💦This firehose of atrocities from ?

It's intended to instill fear, cowering, compliance, and of course, to desensitize you to all the horrific actions he takes, one after the other.

People tend to forget the onslaught from yesterday after the new firehose blast today.

NEVER allow that. Don't get desensitized. Don't ever normalize this.

Follow the advice of Tim Snyder, Marc Elias, Indivisible, others, to cope and do what YOU can (do a search).

Big hugs to every one of you.

2/ Joyce Vance has similar thoughts:

We are in the days of shock & awful, where Trump tries to make people feel so overwhelmed by all the rapid changes & actions that they quit trying to keep up. Don't give into that. Learn about what you have the bandwidth for. Understand that these are steps being taken to break down democracy.

@LorrieW Aww, love you too Lorrie.

@GottaLaff I will not comply to this administration in advance! Thank you for your updates and work! :blobcatcuddlepile: :Blobhajprideheart:

@GottaLaff

We have to support each other to make sure the truth wills out. You are doing far more than your share, and I thank you so much for all you are doing to help us not only weather this storm, but to strengthen our democracy.

@GottaLaff

I'm following Snyder's advice about writing down what's important to me, so I know when those red lines are being challenged.

I'm also trying to call out the things that are batsh!t crazy wrong, to push back on the normalization of it all. Not bad policy (like leaving WHO), but seriously moral wrongs (like calling for ethnic cleansing in Gaza). In fact, I'm starting my own list of "Just Wrong" actions so I don't forget.

@GottaLaff I swear if you have to make a spreadsheet to prioritize what the hell is going on every given day of this administration so you can push aside the things that are trivial distractions do so.

@GottaLaff Plenty of people from other countries here to give you reality checks.

Don't imagine that Trump won't deal out the same kind of treatment to American citizens.

@GottaLaff My question is where are the people who are supposed to be fighting this?
No leading Democrat has pushed back on it, no Senator has called him out on it.
this is really very distressing to know that people who are supposed to be working for us are nowhere to be found.
They're hiding in the basement. What are we supposed to do?

@fmhilton @GottaLaff This is what worries me. Where are the leaders? Are they being silenced, or are they complicit? Or are we just not hearing their voices in the din of the right-win spin machine?

@zenkat @fmhilton I’ve been wondering too.

Last night, Neguse was asked point blank how Congress is fighting back. He did political speak sidestepping and said we all have to fight back, with no specifics.

@GottaLaff
So...you're saying the Democrats in Congress might have a concept of a plan in fighting back. I feel SO relieved.

@zenkat @fmhilton

@Wileymiller I was literally screaming at my TV. Neguse used to be one of the vocal ones, brave ones. Now that’s his response? Pablumspeak? @zenkat @fmhilton

@GottaLaff @Wileymiller @zenkat It's all "Let's get along to get along" "It's a complicated situation."
I call it bullshit.

@GottaLaff
And that's why I've stopped watching the news on tv.

@zenkat @fmhilton

@GottaLaff @zenkat @fmhilton The democrats wrote a letter of "concern" as usual

@zenkat @fmhilton @GottaLaff #DNC has no leadership, to speak of, only diseased brain centrist gerontocrats, who will be pushed over by a breeze. It's been this for decades. The pelosi (who had to be poked, HARD, by grassroots outrage to do ANYTHING, other than in-house theatrics) syndrome.

If they don't put VERY young, progressive, uncompromising leaders in place, this coming round of internal party elections, they are toast. Nobody is gonna give money to useless old floppers. Nobody wants to vote to useless push overs. Nobody wants to vote for decrepit, useless, grifting, useless, uninvested-in-future, useless millionaires.

Did I mention nobody wants anything to do with useless old farts who sell out? Yeah.

@GottaLaff In the Star Wars show "Andor", young, idealistic and philosophical rebel Nemik is drafting a manfesto. In the process, he opines, "So much going wrong, so much to say, and all of it happening so quickly. The pace of repression outstrips our ability to understand it. And that is the real trick of the Imperial thought machine. It’s easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident."

@zenheathen That’s exactly what Maddow was saying last night

@GottaLaff And also, remember who he is - an old, stupid, lazy slob. He's going to lose momentum soon. Not to say things will stop being horrible but this his him trying to tire you out before he runs out of energy himself. Don't let him.

@jwcph @GottaLaff This was true the first time around. But this time he's backed by zealots backstage who have had four years to craft an ambitious and audacious plan to hijack the US government. These are just their opening chess moves. They won't stop until checkmate.

@zenkat @GottaLaff That is absolutely true - but unlike the current firehose of EOs & appointments, all of that is going to require a lot more work. Which is going to be difficult for them, both because they're incompetent & disagree wildly with each other as their boss changes his mind halfway through every sentence & because gv't employees either can't or won't comply... theconversation.com/civil-serv

Also, their 2025 plan is basically one huge self-contradiction & in no way implementation ready.

@zenkat @GottaLaff To be clear, I'm not saying they won't do damage or be horrible, because they will - but it's a different kind of endurance we're going to need & they know it, which is why they're trying to wear us down in the first month.

@jwcph @GottaLaff Yes, I hear you. There will be messy internal fights in the administration as different factions duke it out. Some will prevail, some will fail. But that's a feature not a bug. Infighting prevents challenges against the dear leader's power, and each battle moves the ratchet of fascism tighter, no matter which side wins.

Of course, ultimately it collapses under the weight of it's own incompetence and willful denial is reality, but we all suffer those consequences.

@GottaLaff If nothing else stay on Mastodon and listen to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC or the audio version of Amazon Music. She is back to Daily for 47’s first 100 days and addresses the overload issue on latest segment focused on Kash Patel’s horrendous FBI proposed appointment

@JonChevreau you read my timeline, right?

Lol, Maddow follows me on Bsky, we’ve followed each other since Twitter. I push her stuff constantly, I posted about her new TV schedule, I post her segments here all the time.

Yeah, I kinda do that already, lol

@GottaLaff Sure, not so much to remind you personally but those of your many followers who must feel overwhelmed so early in 47’s latest reign of terror.

@ferricoxide Exactly. Maddow showed that clip last night.
