Speaking of hummingbirds.

I wanted to share this photograph of this little guy. He is a ruby-throated hummingbird and the self-proclaimed monarch of the hummingbird feeders. Seen here, he is sitting atop a shepherd's hook guarding the bird feeders. Notice that he still has sugar water dripping from his beak.

"Ruby-throated Hummingbirds fly straight and fast but can stop instantly, hover, and adjust their position up, down, or backwards with exquisite control. They often visit hummingbird feeders and tube-shaped flowers and defend these food sources against others. You may also see them plucking tiny insects from the air or from spider webs." - allaboutbirds.org

This is a blown-up photograph of a male ruby throated hummingbird looking directly at the camera. He is sitting on the curved top of a black metal shepherd's hook. There is masonry white stone and brick in the background but it is so out of focus that the colors are simply white from the left that fades to brick on the far-right side. The hummingbird is sitting and appears to look a bit grumpy. Its head in this photo is olive green, both black eyes are visible, but light reflects of the top of the left eye. The black beak is pointing almost directly at the camera so judging length is difficult, but two drops of sugar water are hanging from the beak. His entire throat is covered with a series of small overlapping bright red feathers which in the right light look like jewels - hence ruby throated. Just below the red feathers is a border of very fine white feathers. Below that, the breast feathers are a mixture of white and green. Only the edge of this left wing is visible which in this photo is the same color as his head olive green. The metal perch is much to large for his feet to wrap around, so his talons look a bit like two small black spiders crawling from underneath.
