PeerTube mobile app v1 released with local accounts, option to login to multiple online accounts on different instances:
joinpeertube.org/news/app-v1

BleachBit 5.0 released with cleaning support expanded to include LibreWolf, (non-beta) Edge, Bash temporary files, Geary email client, targeted cleanup of rotated logs and broken desktop entries on Linux, new display-language option in preferences, other improvements:
alternativeto.net/news/2025/5/
("including privacy-oriented browsers like LibreWolf, non-beta Edge..." - did AlternativeTo guys really call Edge a privacy browser or they just formulated the sentence a bit vaguely? 🤔️ *Says Fossery who sucks at English* lol)

NewPipe v0.27.7 released with temporary solution to restore YouTube video quality above 360p, new SABR video protocol is being worked on:
alternativeto.net/news/2025/5/
(Who will be faster? YouTube implementing Widevine DRM (fully for everyone) or NewPipe implementing SABR protocol? Let's bet in the comments, because why not lol)
(I bet for SABR, because YouTube is much slower to implement things and roll out for everyone lol)

Curl project is cracking down on AI slop bug reports, reporters get instant ban:
news.itsfoss.com/curl-ai-slop/
("But what if they judge that incorrectly and ban legit reporters? They can use it for malicious purpose to ban people they don't like" - people will say. That can be an issue of course, but at the same time, AI generated trash takes away time from answering legit bug reports, so it can be a good thing if done right. It's hard to judge though, it's either this or that problem.)

Calibre 8.4 released with improved KEPUB output, other improvements and bug fixes:

Bluesky app 1.98 released with option to restrict post replies to followers, post search for individual profiles etc.:
alternativeto.net/news/2025/2/
(I've been considering to join Bluesky, but I don't know much about it outside the news about new features, will look into it when I'll have more time)

YouTube going desperate and cracking down on alt frontends took another victim, since Thursday evening (or afternoon?) FreeTube can't play any videos (live stream playback still works):
redlib.privacyredirect.com/r/d
(Devs said they are working on a fix, hopefully it will work. It would be really sad to see the most feature-rich YouTube client die off...)

PeaZip 10.3 released with better GNOME and KDE Plasma integration, ability to limit the max size for TAR archives, support saving the list of files and search results as CSV (with , and ; separator), TSV, or TXT etc.:
9to5linux.com/peazip-10-3-arch

Ente Photos 0.9.98 released with light mode, enhanced import, beta encrypted video streaming etc.:

OpenProject 15.3 released with option to schedule recurring meetings, set up a meeting template, default view shows upcoming meetings categorized into Open and Planned:

In case this hasn't happened to you on , *sometimes* YT accepts, but then silently deletes,😡 comments w/ URLs - like Wikipedia refs. Write, post helpful comment w/link. Try to edit, or refresh page and it's gone! ☹️☮️👎
Hence, I seldom try to share WP links on *unfamiliar* channels. Unclear if URL-kill is a default setting, an optional setting by overzealous channel mods trying to avoid spam / trolls and/or YouTube algorithm(s)☹️

In case you're writing an article on the many ways in which Alphabet / Google's sucks:
* Ceaseless for the same damn $70K pickup trucks, Red Robin burgers, Temu junk, I already said I'm not interested in - umpteen times!
* Rare, but infuriating, "how's your YouTube experience" surveys they'll ignore
* hair on fire with damn ad interruptions on public interest / nonprofit content, like Democracy Now!
* Every other bs thing to make more - in the name of profit💰🖕

YouTube adblocking update. For some days it ignored my adblocker and all was comparative bliss.

Then it went back to telling me it wasn't allowed. Insult to injury is that even if I pause the adblocker it still won't work despite what the snotty message says.

Incognito windows and just not watching is working fine. I am increasingly favouring the latter and the time it frees up.

Btw:
it sucks, we CineMastodians always have to link to Youtube, when we want to share a movie clip.

I think we should start our own collection of clips on Peertube.

Because:
a) we can (I honestly hope, some of you will join me)
b) Youtube sucks
c) I happen to have a new notebook and now I am well equipped to cut and share videos.

@henry Super-helpful video to show behind-the-scenes YouTube creator UI UX controls.👍
Rant: always frustrated when allows me to post, but then shortly and silently deletes, my (hopefully) thoughtful / helpful comment. Sometimes comments with no controversial text, but with URL (I like to provide receipts!), get silently nuked☹️😡👎 - even YouTube URLs!😡

FCOL, should, at the very least, show "URLs not allowed" so people don't waste time trying...
