Jim Bodie<p>I finished book 9 which was Lena Andrews&#39;s, &quot;Valiant Woman: The Extraordinary American Servicewomen Who Helped Win World War II&quot;. The book is about all of the women who joined the US military, to support the US war effort during WWII. This includes the WASPS, WAC, WAVES, SPARS, and MCWR. This was a very good book.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Books</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JimsBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JimsBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BookLog" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BookLog</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WWIIBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WWIIBooks</span></a></p>
Jim Bodie<p>I finished book 72 which was Peter Caddick-Adams &quot;Monty and Rommel: Parallel Lives&quot;. This is a comparison of the lives of British field marshal Bernard Law Montgomery and German field marshal Erwin Rommel. Very excellent book!</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Books</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JimsBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JimsBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BookLog" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BookLog</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WWIIBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WWIIBooks</span></a></p>
Jim Bodie<p>I finished book 63 which was &quot;Fire &amp; Steel&quot; by Peter Caddick Adams&#39;s (@militaryhistori). This is his 3rd book in what I have dubbed the &quot;&amp; Steel&quot; series of WWII books that covered D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and this one, the end of WWII in the west.</p><p>I highly recommend the entire series.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Books</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JimsBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JimsBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BookLog" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BookLog</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WWIIBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WWIIBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/PeterCaddick" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PeterCaddick</span></a>-Adams</p>
Jim Bodie<p>My copy of Peter Caddick-Adams&#39;s &quot;Monty and Rommel&quot; book finally arrived today. This makes 5 of his books that I bought this year. I read &quot;Sand &amp; Steel&quot; and &quot;Snow &amp; Steel&quot; and am 4 chapters from finishing &quot;Fire &amp; Steel&quot;. </p><p>If one likes reading military history, especially WWII, I highly recommend Peter Caddick-Adam&#39;s work. As an added benefit, by buying his books, you&#39;re helping feed his dog and that&#39;s always a good thing.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Books</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JimsBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JimsBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WWIIBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WWIIBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/PeterCaddick" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PeterCaddick</span></a>-Adams</p>
Jim Bodie<p>I finished book 60 which was Peter Caddick-Adams (@militaryhistori), &quot;Snow &amp; Steel: The Battle of the Bulge, 1944-45&quot;. This is a most excellent book on the Battle of the Bulge. This book is greatly detailed with an excellent narrative which makes it very readable. </p><p>It was a most excellent book and I recommend it highly. </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Books</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BookLog" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BookLog</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JimsBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JimsBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/wwii" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wwii</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/wwiibooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wwiibooks</span></a></p>
Jim Bodie<p>I finished book 52 which was Ben Macintyre&#39;s &quot;Prisoners of the Castle&quot;.</p><p>If I can be said to have a favorite subject of World War II, a subject that has fascinated me ever since I read Pat Reid&#39;s &quot;Escape from Colditz&quot; in high school, that subject would be Colditz Castle and it&#39;s time as the Oflag IV-C POW camp for Germany&#39;s difficult and prominent POWs.</p><p>This was a great book and a fine addition to my 5 other Colditz books (pictured here).</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Books</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BookLog" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BookLog</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JimsBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JimsBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WWIIBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WWIIBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Colditz" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Colditz</span></a></p>
Jim Bodie<p>It&#39;s another reading afternoon and I&#39;m going to start with part 2 of Peter Caddick-Adams Sand &amp; Steel. In part 1, the training killed a lot of GIs, Tommies, and whatever the Canadians called themselves. Now it&#39;s the Germans turn as part 2 starts with the invasion.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Books</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JimsBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JimsBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WWIIBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WWIIBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DDayBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DDayBooks</span></a></p>
