This film breaks new ground with its production methods. At the helm as art director is Yohei Taneda, a seasoned live-action filmmaker.
In a first for Ghibli, the team meticulously crafted miniature models of the Oiwa family and Marnie's house to use as reference for the illustrations. This innovative approach adds a unique depth and texture to the visuals.

The Wetland Mansion is a unique blend of architectural styles, with some whispers suggesting the windows were modeled after the historic British Consulate in Hakodate.
