Been a good day. Took my visiting son out for a scenic drive down the (central Oregon) coast while running errands, and we not only saw a pod of whales feeding, we saw a young whale VERY close up (just beyond the rocks at the base of our overlook). Turns out, my son had never actually seen a whale before, so double win. (Sadly, could not show him sea lions, as they've apparently just left for the season, but there was a harbor seal.

“A whale-watching company has abandoned tours off Ireland’s southern Atlantic coast and declared the waters an empty, lifeless sea.

Colin Barnes, who ran Cork Whale Watch, announced he was closing the company because overfishing of sprat has disrupted the marine food chain and diverted humpback, minke and fin whales as well as dolphins.” 😢😔

The Guardian · ‘Nothing left’: Irish whale-watching company closes amid ‘overfishing’By Rory Carroll

Got to see a "tea party" of whales this week, which I guess is when multiple pods come together? Three pods of Orcas, estimated around 26 in total were circling the waters in search of food. They were all pretty far away but it was really cool to see so many, especially the little baby Orcas learning to hang in there. The city in the background is the greater Vancouver, BC area. These waters provide for many creatures both above and below the water.
