La Vleeshuis d’Anvers, l’ancien siège de la guilde des bouchers, est un bâtiment vraiment marquant qui date des premieres années du XVIe siècle (architecte : Herman de Waghemakere). Après une rénovation au milieu du XIXe, il a été reconverti en musée, d’abord des antiquités, au fil du temps plutôt de la musique. Juin 2022.

Wooden house.

Don’t be fooled. This is NOT the oldest house in #Antwerp. However, it is the oldest house in Antwerp with a wooden facade. Dating from 1546 it has survived 6 wars although sadly, due to a restoration in the ‘70s the facade has had a transformation and isn’t original anymore.

Façade d’un petit immeuble à deux étages en brique jaune d’inspiration Art nouveau. Elle est asymétrique avec une baie vitrée arrondie associée à un petit balcon au premier étage. Mais surtout, elle présente par endroits des motifs en brique bleu et rouge sur jaune, qui ressemblent à du pixel art ou des motifs de tricot. Il y a aussi une frise rouge et bleue plus classique qui accompagne l’arrondi des fenêtres et de la porte.

It is said that the mirror is the symbol of imagery or of awareness. The mirror has the ability to copy the visible reflections of the world in its own figural reality. Scheler and other philosophers associated mirrors with thought because it is a mental instrument that is the reflection of the universe and enables you to observe yourself. Frequently mirrors emerge in legends and fairytales, showing what happened in the past or what will happen in the future or what is happening now from a very far distance.
The mirror always tells the truth. Without need for the masks we people wear to protect ourselves, mirrors reflect only what they see. In a way mirrors are able to perceive the soul of ourselves, as well as of the people and things surrounding us, as they are without cover. This is partially due to the fact that what we see when we look into the mirror is actually not reality. Rather, the reflection in the mirror is an inverted version of the world we live in. Or is it the other way around?

My firts post on Pixelfed must of course be a photograph of the two things a hold most dearest in live, apart from my two lovely daughters, and those are: my wife Loes and the mother of all arts…architecture.

The Zillion was a nightclub with a dubious reputation for fraude, money laundering, drugs and weaponry. One of the smaller dancing floors inside almost completely stripped down. Garbage everywhere. Still, the original chinese style lanterns still hanging off hte ceiling. To the right a stairs leading to the main dance floor.
Main dancing floor, again filled with garbage, with the stairs in the centre of the picture. The original wall paintings (cubic art with lots of colour) are still intact, albeit painted with graffitti here and there.
