The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>SMASHING PUMPKINS<br>Gish<br>2011 UK remastered reissue</p><p>Last spin of this Saturday night, and I’m opening all the windows, and turning the knob FULL RIGHT.</p><p>The first two Pumpkins albums are essential cornerstones of my youth. I knew exactly where I was when I heard both for the first time.</p><p>I bought Gish on cassette from Spinnaker’s in Hyannis, Ma the same day I bought my CD copy of Dinosaur Jr.’s Green Mind (I only had enough for ONE CD). I threw Gish in my Walkman and walked the beach while my sister and her boyfriend made out, and I got my brains blown out.</p><p>I Am One, Siva, and Rhinoceros right out the gate are still in my top 10 SP tunes. Gish is heavy, gnarly, psychedelic, dreamy… ALL OF IT.</p><p>Two years later, another insane masterpiece would completely shake the foundations of my world.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90smusic</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/smashingpumpkins" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>smashingpumpkins</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/gish" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gish</span></a></p>
The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>THE STONE ROSES<br>The Stone Roses<br>2014 Europe reissue</p><p>Saturday night classic.<br>Absolute timeless album that, somehow, sounds even better today than it did back then. How is that even possible?!??</p><p>And listen, for me… I know some people like Second Coming (I’ve never met one), but they should have just left it here. </p><p>This is just so flawless and note-perfect, they were never going to best it.<br>Every time I hear anything from Second Coming playing anywhere, I just think, “Can somebody just please put on the first record? The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>THE CHURCH<br>Priest = Aura<br>2021 Europe 2xLP reissue</p><p>I understand why everybody loves Starfish, and with good reason. That album is phenomenal. </p><p>However, Priest=Aura is MY Church album.</p><p>I was a great abuser of the Columbia House/BMG “16 Tapes or CDs For A Penny” deal as a kid. I would use my friends’ + relatives’ addresses &amp; LOAD UP.</p><p>On one such order, I needed to pick a couple of things to round out my selections, so I just gambled on a few things.</p><p>THIS was one I guessed on, &amp; ended up loving it.<br>I remember exactly what the tape looked like.<br>It was from BMG, &amp; it was a solid white/cream coloured shell.</p><p>That became my nighttime tape. I used to lay in bed at night with my headphones &amp; listen to music for about two hours before falling asleep, and this moody, haunting gem was my go-to for a few months. </p><p>It still sounds amazing.<br>Heroin is a hell of a drug.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90smusic</span></a></p>

Really catchy, jangly, indie rock songs with great, witty lyrics.</p><p>Super infectious. <br>Everybody I’ve introduced to these records have loved them, and get pretty enamoured with them pretty quick.</p><p>Lastly, these records SOUND great. The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>BOB DYLAN<br>Blonde On Blonde<br>1970s Canada 2xLP reissue</p><p>A little Saturday morning Bob, as per my teenage son’s request, as we eat apple pancakes for breakfast. </p><p>My boy has become quite enamoured with Mr. Zimmerman, but only up until Infidels, and then only Oh Mercy and Time Out Of Mind after that.</p><p>Blonde On Blonde is an album I find to be a song or two too long, but great regardless. It’s just a classic, early morning riser weekend record.</p><p>Interesting fact about Blonde on Blonde:<br>The initial Canadian pressing contains an early mix of the album which was subsequently NOT used for the American "original" edition. It is distinctly different than the American release, but then again, there are an INSANE amount of different mixes of this record.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/bobdylan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bobdylan</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/blondeonblonde" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>blondeonblonde</span></a></p>

The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>TOM ROBINSON<br>North By Northwest<br>1982 Canada pressing</p><p>I was familiar with Tom Robinson before finding this, but not with THIS record.<br>I was however a big fan of his Tom Robinson Band album Power In The Darkness, particularly the gem “Up Against The Wall”. </p><p>How I heard of THIS one was unusual. When I’m puttering around the non-studio portion of my house, or showering, I listen to a lot of STINGRAY Remember The 80s Channel. A regular staple on that channel is a GREAT song called “Listen To The Radio” by Pukka Orchestra.</p><p>Only… it’s not their song.<br>It’s a cover.<br>Of a TOM FRIGGIN ROBINSON song, which I was very unfamiliar with.</p><p>The Pukka version is pretty good, but it’s far more bright, shiny and produced to the hilt.</p><p>The TOM version (which appears here) is a lot more scruffy and rough around the edges, and goes by the name “Atmospherics (Listen To The Radio)”. <br>It’s just one of MANY awesome songs here.<br><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a></p>
The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>POPULAR MECHANIX<br>Western World<br>1982 Canada pressing</p><p>O.K.<br>THIS is a confusing one. So 🐻 with me.</p><p>Here’s where it starts:<br>I’m a big fan of the Australian band ZOO (also pictured below). I adore that record immensely.</p><p>Now…<br>ZOO were originally called Pop Mechanix, the name Aussies remember them by. They were forced to change their name to ZOO because ANOTHER Aussie band, POPULAR MECHANICS, sued them.<br>Jerks.</p><p>I bought THIS record thinking that it was THAT band, the one who sued POP MECHANIX.<br>It’s not. </p><p>THIS is an altogether different third band from Winnipeg, Canada, and lucky for me, they’re very cool. <br>Imagine a more shadowy, darker R.E.M. or Blue Aeroplanes.<br>Im chocking this up to happy accident, because I REALLY dig it.</p><p>Now… turns out, the original litigious Popular Mechanics, who sued Pop Mechanix (ZOO), only ever put out ONE 4-song E.P., &amp; one 7” single. <br>So… they are clearly losers. 😂</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1980s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1980s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/80s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>80s</span></a></p>

The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>BLUE MURDER<br>Blue Murder<br>1989 Canada promo pressing</p><p>I rescued this from a thrift store today. The cover and inner are badly weathered, wilted, worn &amp; torn, but the record, although very dusty, is in near-mint condition. </p><p>I also grabbed it because I’m very unfamiliar with it, having never heard of it before. Apparently, Blue Murder was formed by former Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy guitarist John Sykes. It also features Carmine Appice on drums, so I figured it was worth a dollar to check it out.<br>We’re about to find out what kind of hair-tastic hard rock is contained herein.<br>After a good clean, of course. </p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1980s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1980s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/80s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>80s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/80smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>80smusic</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/hardrock" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hardrock</span></a></p>
