Walker<p>Opened my Unifi Protect app on the phone and met with a giant video ad for their AI product. </p><p>Ya, not what I want to see in my security camera app. Ubiquiti keeps finding new ways to annoy me. Now it is with intrusive ads. </p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/unifiprotect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifiprotect</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a></p>
David Nelson<p>I finally got around to putting my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/UniFi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UniFi</span></a> controller on a current <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MongoDB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MongoDB</span></a> release. Went from version 3.6 to 8.</p><p>Rather than go through the in-place database upgrade steps, I just did a new controller install and restored a backup of my config onto it.</p><p>The "official" instructions are quite outdated so I ended up following these steps. Worked like a charm. <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/UNIFI/comments/1deaeoj/how_to_guide_installing_unifi_network_application/?rdt=36295" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">reddit.com/r/UNIFI/comments/1d</span><span class="invisible">eaeoj/how_to_guide_installing_unifi_network_application/?rdt=36295</span></a></p><p>Just be sure to replace all occurrences of '7.0' with '8.0' if you want to be on the latest MongoDB.</p>
warthog9<p>Grrrrrr.</p><p>So I finally got unifi 9 up, and got the mongodb server upgraded from 3.2 to 8. This is a pile of garbage the UBNT should have automated and decided instead "meh".</p><p>They get a lot right, and a lot wrong and I wish there was another good self hosted single pane of glass option to genuinely compete.</p><p><a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/Unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Unifi</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/UBNT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UBNT</span></a></p>
Douglas<p>I upgraded us to a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a> UDR7 which replaces an EdgeRouter4 that had given us long and faithful service. This new device is SO MUCH EASIER for me (a recreational-at-best IT guy) to setup vlans and whatnot. It just works.</p><p>Also it can make use of our full 1200/1200 ATT Fiber connection. So that's fun.</p><p>I'm still having some meshing issues with the U7Pro AP in the back of the house. I think it's time I finally run a network cable...</p>
Stryder Notavi<p>So, Ubiquiti she to have enshittified in recent years, with the management VM requiring a UI.com login even when running completely on my own hardware. </p><p>I can probably get away with just shutting the management VM down when not needed so it can't phone home, but I'm concerned about the direction they're taking this.</p><p>Have people had success finding other ways to administer this kit that don't rely on running the unifi server?</p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/networking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>networking</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/enshittification" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>enshittification</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/DeviceReclamation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DeviceReclamation</span></a></p>

JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>Tried to climb into grandpa’s attic today to start installing <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> stuff. Super cramped, hot AF. I got discouraged and gave up. Supposed to be cold tomorrow, will try again. But yikes. What have I gotten myself into?</p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>I got my remote security rig assembled and configured. Kill-a-watt confirms 25-30 watts. I ran it for a day to check kWh measurement against real time and it checked out. </p><p>So yesterday I fully charged the EcoFlow, plugged the "rig" into that, and pulled the AC plug. The readout suggested a 22 hour runtime. That's less than the 33 I calculated, but there's overhead and waste associated with DC to AC to DC, plus heat and cooling fans.</p><p>Anyway it ran for 20.5 hours before I plugged it back in. Still had 13% battery and ~3 hours runtime. Very positive test, I'm pleased w/ the results. </p><p><a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifiprotect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifiprotect</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ecoflow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ecoflow</span></a></p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>I’m not sure if anyone cares, but my remote “security rig” is very cool. It consists of a CloudKey+ w/ SSD, a Flex Switch + utility powerbox, Verizon home 5G router, and two G5 turret ultras. All in draw is 25-30 watts. If powered by my 1kW EcoFlow Delta, that’s 33 hours, with zero solar input. I’m happy with how it turned out. <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifiprotect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifiprotect</span></a></p>
MacGeneration<p>Ubiquiti présente une nouvelle génération de ses caméras UniFi, avec un capteur 4K et une dose d’IA <a href="http://dlvr.it/TJkfBT" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="">dlvr.it/TJkfBT</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://social.macg.co/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://social.macg.co/tags/Cam%C3%A9rasUniFi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CamérasUniFi</span></a></p>
Makenshi Fox<p>This week I will be replacing my router (<a href="https://blimps.xyz/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://blimps.xyz/tags/Edgerouter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Edgerouter</span></a> Lite) with an Alta Labs <a href="https://blimps.xyz/tags/Route10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Route10</span></a>. The ERL has been great, but there is one specific condition which causes severe performance issues. The ERL can offload <a href="https://blimps.xyz/tags/ipv6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipv6</span></a>, <a href="https://blimps.xyz/tags/vlan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vlan</span></a> and <a href="https://blimps.xyz/tags/pppoe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pppoe</span></a> at 1gbs, but not all at once. So, if you try to transfer a lot of ipv6 traffic, it drops to software and it then affects all traffic passing through. The main "culprit" is Steam which prefers ipv6 (as it should!) The new router should not have that limitation.</p>

JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>We’re going to be unexpectedly moving across town soonish. (Not bad, not good. But an upgrade) So I bought a bunch of stuff I had planned to buy anyway to secure whatever temporary structure we eventually put on our land. But instead it’s going to the other place to monitor during renovations. Ubiquiti and a $30/month Verizon 5G gateway, FTW. <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/UI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UI</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a></p>
