@CharlieMcHenry filing this one under #TwitterDiaspora

I completely agree - no corporation, media outlet, or org except those who identify with fascism and propaganda should be there any more. Find the nearest X-it, create your own instance, set your own standards, federate among our industry sector, and yes, GTFO of the dead-bird site ASAP.

@EllenInEdmonton Allright! I think I’m starting to get it now: This #book is indeed about self-righteousness and confirmation bias, but most of all it feels to be about #disgust, and how that guides us on the #internet and generally as pack animals.

It’s also about narrative and different points of view. About intersectionality of course with #race. And very much about #socialmedia!

The more I read the more it feels like I would recommend it! Especially for #twitterdiaspora!

You don't need to believe me on my word. It is all there to see, though it requires thinking-out-of-the-box. I know, I had to do the research myself.

It is important to understand the way I think.

That said, I do understand your exasperation of losing your main distribution channel which had a strong representation of your target audience.

As explained, the #TwitterDiaspora, was intended. I am guessing...

At the same time, apparently the #TwitterDiaspora led to a real shakeout in some areas of the fediverse app space: The number of mobile fediverse apps decreased, & of the ones that remained, many reduced the number of platforms they support.

& AT THE SAME TIME, more & more platforms are adopting ActivityPub, & ActivityPub is in turn specifying more capability, which pushes Mastodon.

It's a wild time & tempting to draw parallels to the blogging heyday, but the forces at play are VERY different.

15. Do a periodic raincheck of your most interesting followers.

Most importantly: GET AT IT! -- Sitting around will not get you anywhere.

16. And, very important, get an overview of the #Fediverse and the many options you have in experiencing it.
Be clear about your needs and preferences when choosing the best-fitting platform and server:

Main thing I'm taking away from conversations on here about indexing, searchability & consent is that a lot more work needs to be done on figuring out how *technically* to address these issues. & that flows from increased *personal* diversity.

It's not that there are known solutions that are too hard to implement - might be more a case of needing more diverse technical inputs, coming from more diverse contributors.

If #TwitterDiaspora were to mean only 1 thing, it would be increased diversity.

Could you expand on what 'elitist' means to you in this context?

FWIW I've often used 'techno-elitist' to talk about services/modalities/etc that had relatively high initial learning curve &/or didn't do anything much to help new users adjust.

I can also see a cultural barrier on Mastodon where old guard is very sternly disapproving of some things #TwitterDiaspora users want (e.g. quote-boost) or do (we tend to make much less use of the content warning feature).
