The Cellon Live Oak

"The Cellon Live Oak is a Florida Co-Champion Live Oak named for its former owner, Ralph W. Cellon. The oak's circumference is 30 feet, it is 85 feet tall and its crown spread is 160 feet."

It has an 80 foot horizontal "spider" trunk that lays on the ground creating a natural pergola. There's even a picnic table amidst the branches! (not shown) In the past dozen years or so this amazing limb was cracked (over my shoulder to the left in photo) and is now supported by large poles. Amazingly after such an injury it remains very much alive!

Spotted this fairly large rocky mountain ponderosa pine (Pinus scopulorum) growing out of a cliff face on a massive rock outcrop (probably 1500 feet high) along the Cow Creek trail in Rocky Mountain National Park a couple of weekends ago. #thicktrunk #trees #naturephotography #RMNP

The stump of an old-growth redwood tree that was logged is surrounded by its offspring trees. This ancient tree was logged about 150 years ago. You will find fairy rings of trees in these forest because the mother tree stump eventually decades away.

This was taken in April at the US Nationsl Arboretum. The oldest grove of metasequoia were planted here around 1950.

The trunks get massive, resembling a bald cypress, minus the knuckles. Dawn redwoods do not have knuckle-like root protrusions surrounding their base.

Can't figure out how you guys photo an oak tree, this one is 15 feet in girth and if I stand back to get the whole tree in the picture, it doesn't look like such a much so what's the secret? We have a tree of 39 feet girth in our area... so it's a problem I'd like to solve!
