Alien Anomaly<p>I don’t care what colour my cat is, as long as it catches mice.</p><p>The only test for economic policy is what effect it has. We can infer the intent from the results.</p><p>The result of almost every economic policy in my lifetime has been to make the rich richer.</p><p>Privatisation? <br>Student loans?<br>Poll tax?<br>Brexit?<br>Corporation tax reductions?<br>Union busting?<br>Inheritance tax?</p><p>Capital won’t address the evidence, because the real reason for every change was to further enrich the rich.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/TaxWealthNotWork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TaxWealthNotWork</span></a></p>
AnnI've been cycling to work for a year now. It is quite long (15 km x 2), but I've got an electric cycle, and most days it still gives more than it takes, like spotting this crow. <br> <br> But, winter is tougher, I won't lie. Esp. the wind here in the western part of Norway can be unfriendly. I've bought a new battery for the coming winter, and I'll invest in a pair of googles, so I will be better prepared than last year. <br> And what has that to do with the crow? <br> <br> If you asked me why I cycle I am not sure I could answer. You can steal my car, but if you steal my cycle I will howl - I did last time that happened in 2019. I have been cycling for almost 50 years, some years a lot, some others less. Cycling is part of my identity, who I am, I guess. <br> <br> And the crow? <br> <br> All of you following Gary Stevenson on YouTube saw what happened in his last video. He was brought to tears when he discovered the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/taxwealthnotwork?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#taxwealthnotwork</a> sticker out cycling. The cycle is the least important thing here of course, but seing, noticing, discovering the minute details of the city we live in is what gives cycling a perspective on life in general. <br> Most people need to travel by bus, tram, or car to get to their place, I am very content about being able to cycle to work, to the library, to the forest or the fjord or the cinema or ... cycling is part of the goal. Cycling is physical and three dimensional and cold and scary at times. But I move my own body. <br> I smiled when I discovered this crow, I felt something, it brought me happiness. Maybe that is why I cycle, to feel something when in movement. To see the smallness instead of the bigness? To feel being part of something minute instead of not feeling anything? <br> Not sure. Gary isn’t a socialist (afaik); toppling capitalism is not his aim, he’s raising awareness of the increasing wealth inequality within our existing (capitalist) system. If the UK government prints more money then all UK money is devalued, and it won’t address wealth inequality. Gary appeals to a broad audience. @TheWolfOfSouthEnd this is exactly what @garyseconomics predicted.

Unless we start taxing wealth, the working people of this country (and the government) will all just keep haemorrhaging money to the rich, making them richer. The more they get, the more they invest, the more they get, and the less there is being spent on the high street, in small businesses and within our local communities.

Thanks Rachel for making us all poorer.
