Jordy Maree on a semi final wave at the 2025 WSL Cape Town Pro.

Same day as the previous surf shot, but a different angle to reduce the backlight of the setting sun. Other wise similar settings: High shutter speed and medium aperture. Both set manually with ISO on auto to compensate for changes in lighting.

Levi Epenetos surfing the quarter final of WSL Cape Town Pro 2025.

The shot has a lot of contrast and nice texture on the water from being backlit / sidelit by the sun. It was still bright enough to shoot with 1/1000s in order to capture the spray and hectic movements. Surfing is a quick sport. Chose a larger aperture because I wanted detail on the face of the wave and the spray. Auto ISO to keep my time and aperture, Image stabiliser on, AF on servo mode and Zone AF.
