@mrchrisadams @bert_hubert @randahl it is possible they loose the interest, after under-investing in proper training and support of the staff, and return to the Microsoft 365 #subscription

But at least they try!

Otherwise I feel like a part of the branding and marketing of the big #cloud scalers is to over-promise and under-deliver (hey just wait for your software-update in 10 years™️ is ready), something open-source projects can not consciously do.

So I’ve circled back to Ko-fi for my monthly greeting card subscription service, Coreyartus Card Club.

Ko-fi was recommended to me by a couple people on different platforms I belong to, and after revisiting it I think it’s going to do what I want it to do.

I’d actually started there a long time ago, and got pulled away by Fourthwall’s integration with a now defunct streaming platform called LiveSpace. I held onto it for a long time and tried to make what I felt was a legit Patreon substitute.

But I think it may not be a good fit for me. Fourthwall is clearly for streamers who need merch. And I was trying to make it be something else… In the back of my head, I thought I might someday take advantage of their POD capacities, but in all the time I was there I never did. I just wasn’t into making POD stuff… I tried that on Society6 a long time ago, and even with some Etsy integrations, but it just never clicked for me.

Fourthwall has a lot of potential. It’s cheap. It has a lot of features, with more all the time.

But I don’t think it’s gonna work out for me, personally. I’m going to shift back to Ko-fi and restart my efforts there. Wish me luck!

OFC they gonna axe #Windows & #MicrosoftOffice anyway in favour of #subscription-only #Saas like #XboxGamePass, #Office365 / #Microsoft365 & #Azure because that's where the real margins are, not with #OneTimePurchase products!

Adobe is switching some Creative Cloud users to a pricier AI plan

Some of Adobe’s most expensive Creative Cloud subscriptions are about to get even pricier for users in North America. Starting from June 17th, the Creative Cloud All Apps plan will be renamed Creative Cloud Pro for users in the US, Canada, and Mexico, adding a bunch of generative AI perks in exchange for bumping up subscription costs.

Yes and no.

#Apple's #iPad makes it easy to test, build and sell #CCSS [commercial closed-source software] at a premium.

  • I mean, I'm happy with my #X230Tablet but I do acknowledge this is an old device and it's rather the exception than norm...

Simply because #Wacom makes good passive stylus and pen-capable touchscreens.

  • So OFC companies that have the money and resources to build premium #apps will target the premium customers who by virtue ob being able to splash 4 digits on a tablet brand-new will be proven more able to pay for their software.

That's why #Autodesk won't even sell people a #Linux license for #Maya (or any of their other tools) unless one has proof of ownership of a certified workstation (i.e. HP Z-series) with a #RHEL [#RedHat] #Workstation #subscription active to begin with.

  • And yes they will run the machine's serial # to check if it's ordered with parts that fit their system requirements from the factory and will demand the same for RHEL. I've been there and had to do that before they even consider offering one a subscription!

Compare that to like #AffinityDesigner on #iOS (or rather "#iPadOS") and the fact that basically all iPad users are expected to have an Apple account and credit card linked to it for the #AppStore and it's no wounder the developers of creative apps will focus on that.

The only exception are #FLOSS #apps that are native to Linux and/or got started on other #Unix Systems [#blender started out on #IRIX as CCSS] and serve #macOS & #Windows as 2nd & 3rd tier platforms [i.e. #darktable oftentimes had no Windows builds because none of the devs had or wanted a Windows machine to test on!]

T’is a sad day today.
I’ve cancelled my subscription to Empire Magazine 🎬

Shame. I’ve been a subscriber for years and it feels like the end of an era. 😢

I don’t get the time to really read and enjoy it and another £50 was about to leave my bank account.

It’s not a bad price for an annual sub - especially as the newsstand price is over a fiver (I think?) but it’s better in my pocket at the moment.

@wolf480pl @cas it's easy...

The reasons one can despise something and the reason one appreciates it can be different.

I.e. I can appreciate #macOS for it's #accessibility right from the #installer but I can #despise it for #Apple not selling it as a commercial #Unix distro for a #subscription

Same with #bash: I can appreciate it for being better than #sh (unix-#shell) , #tcsh or #csh but I despise it for not having modernized like #fish.

It's called having "mixed feelings" or rather #NuancedOpinion.
