Amsterdam_XXXThe mural “Huygenika” can be found on a blind wall of the former “Wilhelmina Hospital”, located on Tweede Constantijn Huygensstraat. It was created by artists Uri Martinez (also known as Uriginal) and Irene Lopez Leon. 👩‍🎨 👨🏽‍🎨 Uri Martinez, a painter from Barcelona, is known for blending details from historical artworks with modern elements. Amsterdam_XXXSpaklerweg in the east part of town is showing its new colors. Big graffiti artworks cover the walls, made with permission from the city and ProRail. 🌈 🌆 The area around “De Omval” has had a drastic but positive upgrade, keeping its industrial look. Amsterdam_XXXDionysus, in this case portrayed in sprayaint under the Metroline, once found the drunken Silenos and kindly returned him to King Midas. As thanks, Midas was granted a wish—but foolishly chose for everything he touched to turn to gold. 🚇🍇 Another time, pirates kidnapped Dionysus, thinking he was just a rich traveler. Amsterdam_XXXBridge number 382 is a special kind of bridge called a bascule bridge. It was built in 1️⃣9️⃣3️⃣5️⃣ and designed by P.L. Kramer in the Amsterdam School style. The decorations were made by Kramer, Jaap Kaas, and Hildo Krop. ⚒️ At the end of the quay wall, you can see a fun sculpture of two sea lions playing with a ball. It’s a nice detail that makes the bridge unique. 🦭🦭⚽️ This bridge is important because of its creative design and beautiful stone carvings. It began as a small peat river flowing into the “IJ” through a sluice, important for trade, shipbuilding, and moving farm goods. The area grew into a community of fishermen, traders, and shipbuilders. Amsterdam_XXXThe “Wiegbrug” (bridge no. 173) is a movable bridge over the Kostverlorenvaart. It links De Clercqstraat with Admiraal de Ruijterweg. The name refers to the type of bridge built here in 1904: a rolling bascule bridge. 🌉 In 2004, artist Leonie Mijnlieff added a piece of art to the bridgekeeper’s house. Called “Boegbeeld”, the artwork marks the entrance to ‘De Baarsjes’ and refers to nearby streets, named after Dutch naval heroes. Historic ships once had decorative figureheads. The apartment block is located in the “Zaagpoortbuurt” (literally: ‘sawgate area’). 🪚🚪 Marnixstraat is a main road between two famous squares (Leidseplein and Haarlemmerplein). The street has a mix of old and modern buildings, including some from the 19th century. Amsterdam_XXXThe houseboat “Rumah Saya” is a motor tjalk located at the intersection of Keizersgracht and Amstel. This historic vessel, built in 1893, measures approximately 16.7 meters in length and 3.7 meters in width. ⛵️ In Indonesian, rumah saya literally means “my house” (rumah = house, saya = I/my).
