Mark Harbinger moved servers!<p>When I'm around other people who use the oxford comma I look like I'm using it, too...<br>(Would love to hang w/ folks who could nail this <a href="https://bookstodon.com/tags/straightline" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>straightline</span></a> )</p>
Jonathan Emmesedi<p>Every Sunday I look back at the preceding week in kpop and pick out a music video or performance that I have particularly liked. This week I have chosen Kep1er – Straight Line.</p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/-8ECgGWuoew?si=WBLI0cAu-jwzLZUs" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtu.be/-8ECgGWuoew?si=WBLI0c</span><span class="invisible">Au-jwzLZUs</span></a></p><p>The switch at 0:27 could have been a turn off for me, but in fact I enjoyed this song, finding the mixxpop style switches did not grate with me and that they made the chorus all the more satisfying. The girls look wonderful too, with the exception of Hikaru in that fishnet top, visible at 1:19. Thank goodness she has prettier outfits in other parts of the MV!</p><p>Switching genres within songs has long been a feature of kpop, but the multiple switches delivered by early NMIXX or some aespa have not always appealed to me. I find it difficult to explain why sometimes mixxpop works for me and sometimes it doesn’t, but “Straight Line” has definitely succeeded as far as I am concerned. </p><p>Another Japanese release from Kep1er that I really enjoyed was “tOgether fOrever” (appended as a reply to this post), which came out as B side just over a year ago.</p><p>I wish Kep1er were not disbanding. I wonder if the awful intrafandom arguments suppressed sales and enthusiasm in general. I also think that putting them on “Queendom” shortly after they had been formed on Girls’Planet 999 did them no favours. </p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/Kpop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kpop</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/KpopOfTheWeek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KpopOfTheWeek</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Jpop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Jpop</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Kep1er" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kep1er</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/StraightLine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StraightLine</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/GirlGroups" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GirlGroups</span></a></p>

ScienceActually<p>The world’s longest overland route in a straight line is entirely located on the Northern Hemisphere. It spans an epic 13,589km (8,443mi), crosses 17 countries, 9 time zones and connects the Atlantic and North Pacific Ocean.</p><p>It starts in Liberia, West Africa, at a tiny and remote beach settlement 250 km southeast of the capital Monrovia. Then it goes on into Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Burkina Faso again, Niger, Chad, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan again before finally reaching China. The line reaches the sea near an industrial village approx. 320 kilometers south of Shanghai.</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/sciencefacts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sciencefacts</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/straightline" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>straightline</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/straightpath" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>straightpath</span></a></p>
