Google, could we get the ability to drag and drop icons and widgets to different home screen pages without it saying "no room on this home screen"? Think a little bit like how apple handles it - if you drag an icon or a widget to a filled up home screen, it just pushes the icons and widgets there to the next page over. Thank you.

Hello everyone. How does the battery consumption under GrapheneOS look like for you? Is it higher than with stock Android (google) or less or lower?

Hallo Zusammen. Wie sieht bei euch der Batterie Verbrach unter GrapheneOS so aus ? Ist er höher als bei stock Android (google) oder weniger bzw. tiefer?

draft - Maybe this is what Google should do with Pixel

Gnnmpf.

Google Store opening in Oak Brook Chicago today, and Santa Monica Los Angeles early next year. Would be nice if they'd open a store in suburban Washington DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia. I'm a fan of Google Pixel phones. I'd appreciate, since I did convince a family member in Maryland to buy a Pixel phone, that he would have an official Google Store closer to him, along with the other millions of Google Pixel users in the greater DC / MD / VA / Baltimore region, in addition to users in other large urban/suburban communities across the US. Maybe after the greater DC / MD / VA region, Florida might be nice, either suburban Orlando or suburban Miami. But focus on the capital region first. I want my brother to have access to an official Google store near him and all the other pixel users there!

of course as I type this, they may want to stores in Texas as well.

xpost - draft - i'm downloading the android 15 beta 3 onto my pixel 8 and my pixel 6a. looking forward to trying out private space. i kinda wanna go back to google chat, but i have been doing microsoft teams, partly because i have a multiple users setup and so, when i log into one user, i avoid logging into another user to avoid cross account data leakage, so private space should help to alleviate the issue where, when i'm logged into the userB, i can use private space to access google services from userA, while still staying in the userB space, keeping the data between the users separate.

but yeah, i've been using microsoft teams because, since its not a google service, it doesn't affect a "google operating system" like android or chromeOS, and so i can access it and login to it without having to think / worry that somehow google photos might accidentally sync data from one account to the other and/or vice versa.

draft - hey guys, just want to say, if you're currently using the pixel4a, pixel5 series, pixel6a, and want to upgrade to the pixel 8 but aren't sure whether you "should" or not, I just want to say that so far, after about a month with my pixel 8, I'm very happy with it. I got the 256gb pixel 8 when it was on sale, so I saved a nice little to medium chunk of cash, and so, if you're thinking of buying it from Amazon or the google store or whatever, I can say a nice new pixel 8 256gb is a good deal, especially if it's on sale. At the time of purchase I also bought a glass screen protector (2 pack) but they also sell 3 pack versions and I got a case that supports magsafe accessories. I kinda tested out another site for my magsafe phone grip ring thingy and it works great with the phone case. Snaps on and the magnet is very strong. So yeah, if you're in the market for a new pixel 8, and you're thinking about the 256gb version, it may be worth the extra $50 or $60 over the 128gb since now you'll have plenty of space for apps, media, Spotify downloaded playlists etc. You can use the app "apps free" from the play store and select the "free apps" category to see a bunch of cool free apps games etc that are currently free to get started and then obviously there are paid apps and services sometimes, but its nice to get started and expand / supplement your app library with some cool free titles. So yeah. If you only want the 128gb pixel 8 that's cool too. I'm only suggesting 256gb because, yeah, I guess I'm a bit of a stan for the google pixel phone series and I want to see their continued success.

Regarding the pixel 8a, that may be good too. I'm just going off the pixel 8 classic, as that's what I have. Comparing pixel 8 to pixel 8a, supposedly pixel 8 has faster charging (27watt compared to 8a which is only 18watt, along with faster qi charging) I did buy a couple off brand magsafe chargers to test with my magsafe case and it works. Again, people seem to know that regular charging via USBC is better for the battery as it generates much less heat and is faster. But kinda cool nonetheless. Also a couple things ive noticed coming from the pixel 6a is that the device is snappier. I use the multiple users function that stock android on pixel has and so, I wanted an upgrade as well as the 7 years of new android updates that the pixel 8 offers. I also figured the extra charging speed would/might be nice. Keep in mind I got it when it was on sale so Id suggest maybe to try that as well if you can. That way it's a little bit of an easier pill to swallow and you can get some accessories to protect your investment like a glass screen protector, magsafe case, magsafe phone ring thingy, and also, a wrist strap to be extra safe and protect your investment.

As for the magsafe case, I wanted it because I wanted to try out magsafe phone grip accessories. I got my first one and what's nice is the magnet is very strong. I still have a wrist strap connected to the case and use that when kinda holding the phone to be extra safe, whereas the phone grip just sorta makes it easier to handle / hold.

I also like that the pixel 8 has more rounded corners and is slightly smaller than the pixel 7 series.

Thermals and heat management seem to be good so far.

I'm using nova launcher and multiple users etc.

Thanks.

Continued thread

I posted this to chatgpt and it gave me a relatively good reply

You’ve raised a valid concern about the integration of Google accounts across different apps on Android devices. Here are some key points to summarize your suggestion and potential solution:

Problem:
Integrated Login: Currently, signing into one Google service (e.g., Google Chat) automatically logs you into other Google services (e.g., Google Photos) on the same device.
Multiple Users Function: When using the multiple users feature on Android, each user might not want to sign into all Google apps simultaneously. This could be inconvenient if a user only wants to access a specific app without their account affecting others.
Your Suggestion:
Option for Separate Logins: Introduce a feature in the settings allowing users to log into individual Google apps separately, rather than an all-or-nothing approach.
Possible Settings Option: "Allow this user to not sign into all Google apps at once" or "Separated logins for Google apps".
Benefits: This would give users more control over their accounts and privacy, especially useful for those who use multiple user profiles on the same device.
Additional Thoughts:
Current Features: While Google Photos and Google Chat provide valuable services, the forced integration can be limiting for specific use cases.
Apple's Approach: Although iOS 18 introduced app-specific locking, it lacks the multiple users functionality present in Android. Advocating for similar flexibility on iOS could also be beneficial.
Proposed Action:
Feedback to Google: Consider submitting feedback to Google through their support or feedback channels. Clear, user-driven suggestions often influence future updates.
Community Support: Engaging with online communities (e.g., Reddit, Google forums) to gather support and bring attention to this feature request.
Example Feedback:
Here’s a draft of how you might present your feedback to Google:

Subject: Feature Request: Separated Logins for Google Apps on Android

Dear Google Team,

I’m writing to suggest a feature that would greatly enhance the user experience on Android devices, particularly for those of us who utilize the multiple users function. Currently, signing into one Google service automatically logs you into all other Google services on the device. This integrated login approach can be limiting and inconvenient.

Proposed Feature:
Introduce an option in the settings allowing users to log into individual Google apps separately. This could be labeled as "Separated logins for Google apps" or something similar.

Benefits:

Enhanced Privacy: Users can manage their accounts more effectively without unwanted access to other Google services.
Improved Usability: Especially useful for those using multiple user profiles on the same device, allowing more tailored access.
I believe this feature would greatly benefit many users and improve the overall flexibility of the Android operating system.

Thank you for considering this suggestion.

Best regards,

[Your Name]

By articulating your needs clearly and engaging with the community, you can potentially influence the development of these features in future updates.

do i like google photos? yes

do i think android should have the ability to not login to google photos if i want to do something like use the multiple users function and sign in to google chat so i can chat with my family and friends on google chat but then not have *that account* be present in the alt multiple user setup?

i think an option google needs to make is to give us some sort of way, in settings or in the login, like maybe they could bury it so it wouldn't affect mainstream people. but still have it there for the 100 million folks on earth who would take advantage of it.

an option in settings when searching multiple users maybe itd be "allow this user to not sign into all google apps at once" maybe call it something better like "separated logins for google apps" or something like that

i'm embarrased. i mean, not really, i shouldn't have to be. but i guess i'm
waiting for apple to bring something like this to ios 19 then. cuz they sure as shit didn't bring it to ios18. they gave us the ability to lock individual apps but no multiple users yet. wtf apple come on.

i *would* want an iphone if iOS 18 had multiple users like stock android.

please apple give us an option for multiple users like stock android.

Guys calm down. i'm not talking about multiple people. when i say multiple users i'm talking about using for one person. which is weird, maybe they need to rename it or something. to better market it's functionality because yes, while on like a tablet and such calling it multiple users makes more sense, for a tablet but also on a phone, maybe they should just call it like "spaces" or "separated spaces" or "separate spaces" to convey that, one single user may want to use the functionality "separated spaces" whereby it would do everything that multiple users does, but just call it / brand it a little different so that individual users will take notice more. ya gotta sell it a bit so that its used so that people appreciate it right?
