stevod1Art Tools &amp; How I Work: I got this heavy hunk of metal from my father in-law. It is great for keeping things flat after gluing. <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/assemblageart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#assemblageart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmedia?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmedia</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmediaart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmediaart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/arttools?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#arttools</a>
stevod1Concept for an open studio invitation. I used my M1 Ultra to pen draw the title on the front and cut the arched window and the card from some cardstock. I created the printed interior tip-in with a picture of my studio space, invitation text and a QR Code of map coordinates using Affinity Designer and had it printed at a copy shop. <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/selfpromotion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#selfpromotion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/openstudio?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#openstudio</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/invitations?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#invitations</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/artstudio?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#artstudio</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/affinitydesigner?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#affinitydesigner</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/xtoolm1ultra?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xtoolm1ultra</a>
stevod1I made up a new set of business cards. Here is the front and back of one of them. I use a copy shop in a neighboring town to print them on digital cardstock.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/selfpromotion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#selfpromotion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/miniartcards?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#miniartcards</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/artcards?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#artcards</a>
stevod1Discarded plastic cards make great paint spreaders and scrapers. I bought this brayer originally to use in printmaking but ended up using it to press some painted paper so not I don't even try and clean it off and use it to make paint transfers.<br> <br> What are paint transfers? I brush acrylic paint on the printed side of a laser print that has been printed backwards and lay it wet side down on what I want to adhere it to. I use the brayer to help press it firmly down. After it has dried I dampen it with water and rub the paper off revealing the laser print underneath which is now right reading. I most use this technique to add titles to the front of my assemblages.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/assemblages?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#assemblages</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/assemblageart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#assemblageart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/arttools?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#arttools</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmedia?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmedia</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmediaart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmediaart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mischtechnik?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mischtechnik</a>

stevod1For anyone using an xTool M1 Ultra, even though you may hear or read that drawing with pens is the only operation that allows the lid to remain open it's not true. This was confirmed by technical support when I contacted them about this. What if you want other color options such as what Cricut offers besides the eight official color pens xTool offers? Although some Cricut pens like the set of 30 I purchased fit into the pen holder unfortunately they are a bit too long to allow the lid to be closed. So here's how I modified them so they work with the lid closed.<br> <br> 1. I set up a marking jig with my Xacto saw miter box and lightly sawed a mark/guide around the circumference of the end of the pen barrel while rotating the pen as I sawed.<br> 2. Then I used a utility knife to finish cutting through the barrel of the pen while pressing down on the blade while carefully rotating the barrel being careful not to cut through the plug.<br> 3. I then cut a slit through the width of the piece that will be removed from the end of the barrel and peeled it off.<br> 4. The only thing remaining to do was to push the end of the plug flush into the end of barrel.<br> <br> I now have an assortment of 30 color pens to use with M1 Ultra. :-)<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/xtoolm1ultra?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xtoolm1ultra</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/xtooldrawingpenalternatives?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xtooldrawingpenalternatives</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/drawingpens?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#drawingpens</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/arttoolworkarounds?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#arttoolworkarounds</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/arttools?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#arttools</a>

stevod1I found instructions for making this handy clamp on Maker Design Lab and I thought it would make a good tool for gluing small pieces for my assemblage work. I used the M1 Ultra to laser cut the parts. My first attempt was rather rough and I had to make some adjustments to the original SVG file that was provided to download.<br> <br> <a href="https://makerdesignlab.com/projects/how-to-make-wooden-clamps-from-scraps/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://makerdesignlab.com/projects/how-to-make-wooden-clamps-from-scraps/</a><br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/arttools?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#arttools</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/assemblageart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#assemblageart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/xtoolm1ultra?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xtoolm1ultra</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmedia?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmedia</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmediaart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmediaart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/lasercutting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#lasercutting</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mischtechnik?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mischtechnik</a>

stevod1Here I am working on a pattern for an m-house in Affinity Designer. This will go in the same assemblage with the three tiny sofa chairs. I will save it as an SVG file and bring it into XCS (xTool Creative Space) so the parts can be laser cut. A few of the items will be blade cut from card stock. I could probably design all the parts in XCS but I find working in Affinity Designer easier with all the tools I'm most familiar with.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/affinitydesigner?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#affinitydesigner</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/assemblageart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#assemblageart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmedia?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmedia</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/mixedmediaassemblage?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mixedmediaassemblage</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/xtoolm1ultra?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xtoolm1ultra</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/lasercutting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#lasercutting</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/xtoolcreativespace?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xtoolcreativespace</a>

stevod1I finally got the ventilation system set up in the indoor studio and did my first laser cutting project this afternoon with the M1 Ultra using the 20W laser module. The next thing to do is glue the pieces of these three sofa chairs together. I cut the pieces from a small sheet of 3mm thick basswood plywood. More to come.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/stevedaytonart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stevedaytonart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/xtoolm1ultra?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xtoolm1ultra</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/assemblageart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#assemblageart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/tinyfurniture?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#tinyfurniture</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/lasercutting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#lasercutting</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/plywood?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#plywood</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.art/discover/tags/basswoodplywood?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#basswoodplywood</a>
stevod1The xTool LightGrip cutting mat is a bit too sticky for my liking so I got the xTool M1 Ultra Electrostatic Mat which arrived this afternoon.
