stevod1The xTool LightGrip cutting mat is a bit too sticky for my liking so I got the xTool M1 Ultra Electrostatic Mat which arrived this afternoon. Works great so far and it was easy to install. stevod1My two all-time favorite shuttles. They were both handmade by the late Jim Ahrens. One he gave me as a generous gift and the other I bought from him. He was not only generous with the shuttle but generous with his time and knowledge. He told me when I visited him that he had no weaving knowledge to keep to himself and was willing to share all. I feel honored and blessed to have known him the short time I did. stevod1My first weaving on my Schacht Flip Rigid Heddle loom. It was fun and it turned out okay with just a few mistakes. stevod1I made two of these tools used for tensioning loose threads when weaving. The top part is made from a wooden craft ball, spool, and toy wheel that I glued together and the walnut stained dowel, large washers, clip pin, and screw hook were purchased from a DIY store. stevod1I finally began weaving this plain weave cloth. It is part entry into weaving again and learning and maybe incorporating it into another piece of experimental art. We shall see. So far so good in spite of the lousy tension and several other mistakes in the prep. Learning from mistakes is what this is all about. I'm trying out a technique I learned from a video by Tammy Bast the Rogue Weaver where she wraps adjacent end threads around each other between bundles of threads when tying on (see picture 2 for a detail). stevod1I'm finally getting around to working on a project on my new 30" Schacht Flip Rigid Heddle Loom. I'm just about finished direct warping a 24" project using some very thin white cotton yarn. This is my weaving rule breaking project so I don't know how it's going to turn out. stevod1I had this panel waiting for something to happen with it and an idea came to me suddenly what to do with it the other evening. I like those sudden ideas. I have some brown craft paper left over from some packing around some new window shades we recently got so I cut strips of some of it and am glueing them onto a section of the panel using some blue acrylic paint for glue. I am attaching each strip over each other.
