Just a reminder, but Southwest got acquired by private equity, so they charge for bags now. :drgn_sigh: With that said, paying for Southwest bags has been an absolute odyssey. First they don't have a way to prepay for bags, so I had to use their magnetic reader (read, not chip reader) at the airport. :corgi_wtf1: Fine. Whatever. Fast forward to paying and I couldn't put my card into the machine because apparently someone else had left their card in the slot (again, not a chip reader, like??? :neodog_shocked: ), and, when I pulled it out, whoever left it behind ended up paying for it. I told the ticketing agent about it and she just threw up her hands and said she didn't know what to do. I feel super guilty for having some rando pay for my bags, but there isn't anything I can do I guess.

Then Southwest sent my bag to a completely random city for 24 hours. :blobfoxtableflip: The baggage clerk was helpful but really confused that I wasn't, in fact, in Phoenix instead of where I am now. I get a slip and a promise to get my bag that night, but like I said, it wasn't until the next day. However, don't worry, they made me whole again by refunding the bag costs... to whomever it was that paid for my bags.

Absolutely wild. :wolf_dead:

#SouthwestAirlines couldn't have cared less. Their policy, they said, was to take baggage complaints only AT THE AIRPORT.  And the kicker was that policy just went into effect last Friday. Lucky me!

So impressed with #SWA. Can't wait to fly again.

More on Southwest Airlines.

"I’ve never seen an airline–or almost any business, really–blow up their brand and do so voluntarily the way that Southwest has. This is just another way they’ve become customer-unfriendly, virtually overnight. And it’s an example of one way they used to offer a better experience than competitors, and now do not," wrote View From the Wing's Gary Leff.

I loved flying #SouthwestAirlines for all the reasons they are now abandoning. Their uniqueness was a strength. In general, they were not the least expensive, but I chose them whenever I could.

They had clear and flexible rules instead of the forest of nickel and dimeing and other crap of other airlines, whether more expensive or cheaper.

Now, they are joining the rest of the pack, without the features I loved.

Too bad for all of us.

Am I one of the crazy ones? I’m struck as I read many posts lamenting #SouthwestAirlines’ change in baggage policy alongside reflections on #RTO on the fifth anniversary of Covid lockdowns in my timeline today. I respect everyone’s own experiences, but as for me? I’ve always detested flying on SWA, and (even as an introvert) I hate the new norm of full-time WFH. So am I a square peg, or just square?

This last week has been really difficult. I was #laidoff from my long time career at #SouthwestAirlines with basically no contact from my coworkers. I've spent the last week updating my cv, website, and job accounts and have put in 150 or so applications. Any tech job hunting tips are appreciated ❤️

So remember that moment when three amazing Southwest employees were angels and helped me rebook my flight to LA when my dad died?

Well, I wrote Southwest about it and mentioned these three women by name and airport. I told SWA the same story I told you.

I used their form and everything.

How did they respond?

By sending the most INCORRECT summary of my feedback ever. Using AI for customer service SUCKS balls.

Way to ruin a moment, Southwest.
