It used to be weeks between disasters, now we’re lucky to get hours.
And this will probably keep everything dangling. (no AI needed for that)

To prepare you need to know what you might face. This is true for an individual, as well as a society. To make it a bit easier to figure this out on a societal level, I aggregated a number of sources that try to assess what challenges humanity might face globally. I hope this is helpful to give others a better overview of global risk and also explore how different experts assess these differently. If it's one thing is clear, it's that the #republicans and #Trump sees the #left as a threat - and that's the upsell. The only thing between them and their #autocracy is the #collectivist movement.
#Decentralization is a threat to their paradigms and they know it. #Hegemony dies under #global #equality - their power with it.
For them it's now or never, because the #RaceToTheBottom would eventually yield #SocietalCollapse. But the #US could wake up to the truth.
In the research around #SocietalCollapse, once you get to the 18th century, revolutions start to pop up as a topic. To better understand the ideas and concepts important for revolutions, I read and summarized Hannah Arendt's "On #Revolution". In this she lays out how the two main revolutions of the 18th century played out (#AmericanRevolution and #FrenchRevolution), where they succeeded, where they failed and where they took different paths. Interestingly, one of her main conclusions is that we need more and better #democracy if we want to correct the errors of these past revolutions. "#Overshoot: Why It’s Already Too Late To Save #Civilization"
I also quote a paragraph that brings some hope (from another article of the same author).
"That’s why I always emphasize that even though it’s too late to save civilization, it’s not too late to save as much of the natural world as possible. Every 1/10th of a degree of warming that we prevent will save millions of lives and countless species."
