Innocuous In Innisfil 🇨🇦<p>Good Morning <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Canada</span></a> <br>Does anyone remember Toronto’s Metromelt machines? They were a fleet of 5 large vehicles, $140,000 each in the 80s, that scooped up snow into a heated tank and reduced it to water that drained into the sewers. They were awesome to watch, but ultimately, fuel and maintenance costs put an end to their use, and they were mothballed. They were very helpful 25 years ago, when the army came to help Toronto. </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/CanadaIsAwesome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CanadaIsAwesome</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Snowmageddon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Snowmageddon</span></a> <br><a href="https://www.cbc.ca/archives/when-toronto-declared-war-on-snow-and-called-in-the-army-1.4950600" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cbc.ca/archives/when-toronto-d</span><span class="invisible">eclared-war-on-snow-and-called-in-the-army-1.4950600</span></a></p>

Innocuous In Innisfil 🇨🇦<p>Good Morning <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Canada</span></a> <br>Canadians who live outside of Montreal may not realize that this city is recognized worldwide as one of the best in snow management. With Montreal announcing yesterday that snow removal operations will take the next 8 days to clear away recent storms, here is a video that provides some details on how that's done. Over 40% of the removed snow ends up in the Saint-Michel Quarry where it might not melt this summer.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/CanadaIsAwesome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CanadaIsAwesome</span></a> #<a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Snowmageddon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Snowmageddon</span></a> <br><a href="https://youtu.be/sNqPtNO8B5A?si=tkxtoyWHS3h5sjP2" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtu.be/sNqPtNO8B5A?si=tkxtoy</span><span class="invisible">WHS3h5sjP2</span></a></p>
Clinterest<p>With an impending <a href="https://mas.to/tags/snowmageddon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>snowmageddon</span></a> arriving soon, I decided to visit a local tailwater today. It took a while to catch the first fish, which tore up the hackle on the fly in the process. I felt lazy though and just kept fishing it. To my surprise, the fish liked it torn up, as four more fish took it over the next 20 minutes. On my way back to the car, I noticed some fish rising near the bank (not a common occurrence). I tied on a size 16 Adams and 30 casts later got the rainbow below. <a href="https://mas.to/tags/flyfishing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flyfishing</span></a></p>

Our neighbour with the giant snowthrower had an equipment breakdown yesterday. Might be a few days before he can get it repaired. Trying to decide if I tackle 150 metres of driveway with my little single stage battery snowblower. <br>Not urgent - we have food, power, internet, and wood for the fireplace. Ross of Ottawa<p>I removed our <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/snow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>snow</span></a> this morning - whew, lots of work! I can't imagine how long it'd be by hand. </p><p>Given another big dump of snow coming tomorrow, I should've been content with a messy, half-assed job, but foolish me, I went out there and used my whole ass. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/snowmageddon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>snowmageddon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ONstorm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ONstorm</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ottawa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ottawa</span></a></p>

We got destroyed by the snow storm last night and early this morning.

I shoveled snow last night at 10pm thinking it would make for less work this morning - It did not.

We had close to 1ft of snow and 4ft snow drifts to dig out of this morning.

My poor little 21" Ego Battery Snow Blower died halfway through and needed to be recharged after an hour.

We have no where left to toss the snow... but we're expecting another dumping over the weekend 😩

Same here in Caledon. This is the 2nd heaviest snow cover we've had in the 15 years living here. My battery snowblower (single stage) usually can clean up where I need to, but today, it has to recharge for round two.

Patio season is quite a way off....

Good Morning #Canada
I'm sitting here sipping coffee and mentally preparing to head outside to clear roughly 25 cm dumped on us last night. Many Canadians across eastern Canada are doing the same, with the lucky ones having a snowblower at their disposal. No surprise, if you are in an area of heavy snow, then 50% or more own a machine. Gas blowers still dominate (88%), but battery units have doubled in use over the past decade.

www.statcan.gc.caBlowing snow - Statistics CanadaWinter is tightening its icy grip on Canada and most of the country is now covered with snow. About one in four Canadian households (24%) told us they had a snow blower to clear their driveway or sidewalk in 2021, with that number rising to over half in the snow bound cities of St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Greater Sudbury and Barrie in Ontario.
