Undiscovered Scotland
205 years ago today. The Union Chain Bridge over the River Tweed upstream from Berwick-upon-Tweed opened to traffic on 26 July 1820. At the time it was the world's longest iron suspension bridge. Wen
Had a great evening at ‘Stow of #Wedale and Heriot Church’. Not my normal evening hangout, but Andy Nairn was talking abut his new novel hosted by the church (photo before event) and Wedale books. Gordy did a great job exploring the book and the Borders background. Much of it is based in and around #Stow - an ancient ‘Sanctuary’.

Pointed at his web site, I was highly amused at the map ‘of goings on’. Wen
Remembrance swim 18 of 61

Branxholme Easter Loch

Another quiet swim. Perfect for a skinny dip and convenient for a run along paths in a nearby wood. 2 lengths of the loch (about 1.5k) and 8k of cushioned tracks through the wood. Wen
Spotted today

Getting out of St Mary’s Loch I saw what looked like a rider on the footpath above me with a dug running by his side. There was something odd about the gait - very upright.. It was a Segway - never seen one of those in off road the wild. (photo for illustration)

Coming through Selkirk on the way back - two old ladies sitting on twin seats on an electric trike pedalled by someone with a lot off puff. Wen
Remembrance swim 17 of 61

St Mary's Loch (not to be confused with the Loch of the Lowes).

A run along the side of the loch, and then a swim by the sailing club. Very enjoyable and it was different to be able to use the buoys as landmarks to allow long circuits to be swum. Amiable temperatures, 9k run and 1.5k swim.
