She needs a different painkiller to help with the pain. So off we go to the #NHS doctors nearby. The pharmacist at the surgery said she'd look into replacements. That was in March. We finally managed to get an appointment 2 weeks ago with a doctor, who said she'd prescribe updated sleeping pills and pills for restless legs. Got the prescription – no restless leg pills. Said she'd talk to colleagues about painkiller and ring. She didn't. Mum rang the surgery and managed to get a prescription for some kind of painkiller. Waited 3 days, and got the medication. A pain patch. Which she's allergic to, and is on her notes. Don't doctors read notes nowadays?

Anyway, she had to call again, and apparently a new prescription is on its way. What's the betting it's for dishydrocodeine again??

So, here's another #MumUpdate.

Mum's been having #insomnia for the past two and a half months. Not being helped by my sibling and her issues. She's tried Nytol and pills from the doctor. It seems to be getting a little better – more good nights than not. Last night was about 4 hours, and the night before about 7. But the night before that was none.

We think it's all connected to coming off dihydrocodeine. In December, mum started the process of withdrawing (with a pharmacist schedule) from this particular painkiller. She's been on it for years and years at quite a high dose (#scoliosis and other related pain).

At the end of March, she finished the withdrawal process and had been told to take aspirin. However, the pain is still very high. Mum also has stage 4 kidney disease, but coming off the dihydrocodeine seems to have improved her kidney function.

If you're a Ricardian (or perhaps just Richard-curious), this online book launch for the Richard III anthology, A Spirited and Most Courageous Prince, is on 20 October.

Authors will be chatting about their work and Richard. I've send some posts for the convenors to use during the event, about my story, 'Borrowed Robes'.

Pick up a copy if you're intrigued. Proceeds to UK Scoliosis research and support.

A long but worthwhile day today. A patient information event of talks and Q & A sessions facilitated by Scoliosis Support & Research in Nottingham. It meant driving for 2 hours up the hellscape that is the current state of the M1 (and back, obviously). On the plus side, lunch was provided - and lots of coffee!
Being armed with current information can only help on the (scoliosis) journey but touch wood I am heading in the right direction so far!
