Today's the day I finally get the boat out on the water (off the dock, that is). I'm just waiting for the sun to finish drying the rug I washed yesterday before I put it back on board. Well, I’m at Deer Harbor Marina on Orcas Island. Surprisingly affordable (off season) and very pleasant. In a little while, I’ll make the 1/2 mile walk up to the local BBQ place for dinner.

This is my last free day before I join the Desolation Sound flotilla tomorrow. If the weather is this good even half the days, I’ll be thrilled.

Bonus: A #seaplane just landed in the adjacent channel. Looks like he’s taxiing past.

Tonight’s mooring ball is a wee bit exposed for my taste, but it’s been pretty smooth so far — except on the rare occasion when a boat speeds by in Bellingham Channel. I took my pups for a hike on shore. Some folks in a small fishing boat set up a camp on shore and are now out fishing nearby. I’ve got one of my crab traps out. It’s nice here. #boating #BoatLife #SanJuanIslands

Interesting morning weather. It's crazy clear where I started about 8 miles back, but there are low clouds much closer to the mainland. The one shown here is Cypress Island which is partially obscured by multiple layers of clouds. I've got the current in my favor and should get to my destination by 9:30 AM. I had a very rushed departure when I realized that there was only about a foot of water under my running gear and the tide was still going out. #boating #BoatLife #SanJuanIslands

Well, it looks like I either caught lunch or dinner. Both of these are about a quarter inch larger than the minimum and both male so they're both keepers. Oddly, they were the only crabs on board when I pulled them in; the last few times the trap has been full. #boating #crabbing #BoatLife #SanJuanIslands
