chris martensone of the struggles I’ve been having with <a href="https://hci.social/tags/RheumatoidArthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RheumatoidArthritis</a> is that the first line medication i’m on works really well for managing symptoms, but has *brutal* fatigue (& regular-bad nausea) for me as a side effect. it’s a weekly thing and i have to take it on weekends to avoid missing work. but then i lose my whole damn weekend, and i can really feel the stress accumulating from a lack of true rest

Badass Britt :mastodon_lgbt:So… my body decided to go into an extremely painful flare up of my rheumatoid arthritis and attack my left hip and knee… it’s never done that before. Fuck. Can’t walk. Can’t get comfortable. So. Much. Pain. Fuck. I can’t take any biologic medication to stop this because my liver is very mad from the biologic I had to stop in early February. Fuck. I can’t take NSAID for pain for other medical reasons. I can’t take Tylenol because of the liver problems. I can’t take high dose steroids for mental health reasons. Badass Britt :mastodon_lgbt:I’m so frustrated. The biologic medications I need to take to prevent pain, swelling and joint damage from rheumatoid arthritis has now caused two instances of acute liver damage in the past 12 months… The injury I’m currently managing is NOT improving after stopping the drug that caused it. So much so, my Rheumatologist messaged me overnight to tell me not to begin new treatment as planned.My health anxiety is obviously at its peak. On top of this most recent liver injury, I’ve been sick 90% of 2025 with repeated infections, keeping me mostly bed/house bound. Fuck my broken immune system. I’m at a loss for what to do. The medical system doesn’t feel like it’s built to help me manage all of this. If I cannot take biologic medications for this condition I’ll become severely disabled very quickly. I’m filled with rage against the system and the physicians who have continued to fail me.I have now had two instances of liver damage over the past 9 months trying to treat my <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/RheumatoidArthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RheumatoidArthritis</a>. The biologics are like a toxin to my system. Yet, my Rheumatologist refuses to prescribe the one thing that brings me any relief - low dose Prednisone.Suffering. It’s constant suffering as the backdrop of my life. A facade I try to cover up and distract myself from, but it’s still there, like the sea, never ceasing.I have so much going on medically that no one will take the reins and truly help improve my life. It’s too much for them. Well, imagine living it. I’m so fed up with our ‘medical system’, I’m tired of the drugs that only hurt me, I’m tired of a body that fails me - I’m only 37. For fucks sake - I deserve a reprieve. Respite. So, I will continue my fight. 💪

Badass Britt :mastodon_lgbt:So, my bloodwork results confirm that I have definitely been fighting off a viral infection for a few weeks…But the good news?!! My RA biologic is controlling the inflammatory levels in my blood otherwise! Yayayay! Also, my hand x-rays showed no permanent damage from RA (yet)… so all my pain/stiffness/swelling is symptomatic of the condition itself and doesn’t indicate damage to my joints at this time. All around, great news.
